About this Cook
Hi! I'm 30, work for a local bank, and am a new vegetarian. I am pretty much a self taught cook. My dad was the one to make dinners at home when I was growing up and he only did what he had to do so we didn't starve. Now that I'm older, I've found a great interest in cooking. I actually look forward to coming home from work to cook dinner. It makes me feel less stressed...
My favorite things to cook
Everything! I like to try new things all the time. New recipes, techniques, ingredients, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We go to the grower's market every Saturday morning to buy fresh organic veggies and fruit, cheese, bread, and eggs. I love it!
My cooking triumphs
Making an Apple Pie and having the crust be successful! What a proud moment :o)
My cooking tragedies
One time, I had my mom and sister over for dinner. We made a stirfry and potstickers. I tried to steam the potstickers and they came out undercooked and rubbery! They looked terrible and were still white. They didn't taste much better. My sister said they looked like "pucker holes"...nasty!

Cucumber Sandwich
Maybe I just don't like sandwiches, but I thought this was a bit bland. I might try it again with peppers and pickles in a tortilla.

Stir Fried Sesame Vegetables with Rice
Very good. I used the broth as a sause to coat the veggies and thickened it with arrowroot. It was a little too heavy on the ginger, but I can fix that next time. I also added breaded garlic tofu that added a nice variety to the stir fry. Yum!

Make Ahead Lunch Wraps
I really liked the concept of this recipe, but was so disappointed with the flavor...there was none. But that can easily be fixed. I will try it again with taco seasoning and/or a different filling from another recipe.
