I have recently moved in with my boyfriend. We are both busy full-time students. Finding meals that we both enjoy has proved to be a challenge. I love all kinds of vegetables and will try anything once. I enjoy some meat on occasion, both could really live without it. My boyfriend, on the other hand, has become accustomed to a standard meat and potatoes routine and will not touch anything that includes vegetables or is too "weird" - note: this word has a very broad definition in his book! My challenge is to create meals that we will both enjoy and still somehow satisfy both of or appetites. Any suggestions?
My favorite things to cook
I love to replicate my boyfriend's favorite restaurant meal at home: Fettucine Alfredo (see "Famous Restaurant Alfredo Sauce" by GOODNIGHTGRACIE2) with homemade rosemary focaccia bread. This one always gets rave reviews - even from my grandmother!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Some of my favorite memories of childhood involve holiday baking with my mom.
My cooking triumphs
I was asked to bring a chicken to Easter a couple of years ago as an alternative meat for a relative who can't eat ham. Having never prepared a whole chicken before, I was completely intimidated but I decided to start my adventure here. I found a wonderful recipe (Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style by Sue Rogers.) This recipe has truly become a family favorite! Now I'm asked to bring two chickens to the holidays and it has even been served as the main dish on several occasions.
My cooking tragedies
In my quest for the ultimate Alfredo sauce recipe, I stumbled upon one that looked very tasty on another website. It had been submitted by a professional tv chef so I thought I would give it a try. It was very labor intensive, but it would be worth it if my boyfriend would enjoy it. After this all day ordeal, I served it up and watched with anticipation as my boyfriend took his first bite. "This is great," he said, "it tastes just like that DiGiorno stuff you buy at the store." While I appreciate his honesty, that was not exactly the reaction I was hoping for. I think next time I will just buy "that DiGiorno stuff!"
