Belles Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Ran out of packaged buns and needed some for burgers. Everyone liked these. To me, they just seemed like french bread in a roll form. I kneaded for 10 minutes and everything. Mine were not really "light" or "fluffy." The taste was good, just not my idea of a burger bun. Like I said, the rest of the family liked them. Will try again when I have the extra time, thanks.

Cranberry Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
OK, I didn't like the taste of this at first. (Of course I had to try it right after it was cooked!) After it sat in the fridge overnight, it turned into something really amazing! The cranberries still retained an appropriate amount of tartness, but mellow and sweet. I cooked the berries and sugar for about 15 minutes on med-low heat in a saucepan, really easy. Then added the jam and nuts. Even my hubby who does not like nuts, liked it. Easy to make, almost addicting appetizer! (And pretty)

Russian Chicken with Feta Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
First, it takes an exceptional recipe for me to rate it a 5. My judging criteria: "normal" ingredients, ease pf prep and cooking of the recipe, and of course if the whole family loves the outcome. This recipe blew away all the criteria! Easy to make with only having to buy a few ingredients and seriously the whole family really did LOVE it. I did double the sauce, but only used 4 chicken breasts to start because I didn't want to waste more chicken if it was bad. (Needless to say, I cooked more chicken to go with the rest of the sauce) Other than doubling the sauce, followed recipe exactly. Loved the tang that the feta gave the sauce, the garlic and onion still had texture and the tomato paste gave it just enough acidity to balance the richness of the sour cream and feta. The vodka was undetectable to me, hubby said he tasted it. (I used a cheaper brand of vodka) Served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and french bread. Hubby thought the sauce would be a good "dip" for the bread as an app-will try that idea out at my work party this week:) Thank you so much Trudy for an awesome NEW chicken recipe for us!!!!!

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
A LOT of work, and time consuming. I have never liked frying meat so that did not help. (my mood) Good flavor. I will try the recipe again and use fresh orange juice instead of the concentrate. I just did not care for the intense tang from the concentrate. Strangely enough, I had a piece of the beef after it cooled, and it was toned down quite a bit and really tasty. I will try again, thanks!

Fried Rice Restaurant Style

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
Had to bring fried rice to a potluck at work, friend suggested that I just make the rice a roni cuz it's "so good." When I looked at the box, and saw no peas and carrots, I decided to try making my own. This recipe was just what I was looking for and really good! Made to recipe using the frozen peas and carrots-so easy that way. My friend said it was better than rice a roni :)

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
Definately better thatn regular fondant in regards to taste. I have not ever worked with fondant and have wanted to try tot use it. This was easy to make. Followed the recipe and directions, tried to use my kitchen aid. It was having to work too hard, so I just finished the kneading by hand and it came together nicely. It was nice and smooth. Used it for a ghost cake, it looked cute! Definately worth trying again, thanks.

French Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
Made this most of the way in the kitchen aid as my breadmaker died from overuse a long time ago! Just had to knead for about 8 minutes, then follow the normal rise procedures for bread and baking. Really liked this, good flavor. Did add 1 T. olive oil. Will use the rest for french toast tommorow am! Thanks!

Easy Alfredo Sauce III

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
Really good, easy to make. Used with tortelloni, Sauteed chicken and served with homemade french bread. I think the egg adds a smoothness to the sauce and aids on the thickening obviously. You just need to temper the egg with about 1/8 cup of the warm sauce. I like my alfredo garlicky, so added 2 cloves minced along with the cheese. Yummy comfort food!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
Wow! Great apple taste, loved the way the syrup and apples melt together in flavor. Hubby took the other 1.5 pies to my parents for our regular Sunday dinner. I stayed back with a headcold so I got the first piece! (Shhh) Well, that way I could warn them if it wasn't any good! It is really good! The syrup brings the pie up another level to that of bakery status, seriously. I used a regular flour, shortening, salt and ice water crust, it held up nicely. Thanks!

Fry Bread Tacos II

These are great! Have made these twice. First time, kept the dough thicker and loved them. 2nd time, hubby wanted the dough a lot thinner, so they cam eout crispier, like a tostada. Those were excellent, too! Thanks for the variety for taco night!

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
Really good. Just went apple picking, and this is what the hubby wanted first. Used Empire apples by mistake. (got them for sauce) Loved how the topping was crispy, just like I wanted it to be! Used all white sugar and no added vanilla. Did add a dash of salt cuz I like the tang it gives. Thanks-enjoy!

Bran Muffins II

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
I did not like these at all, but my son did. I followed the recipe to a t, using store brand bran flakes. They taste to me like a plain, buttermilk flavored muffin with bran flakes mixed in. The bran did not dissolve/distribute at all. Other recipes usually have you soak the bran in the milk, I think I should have. Anyway, sorry for the not so good review, just not my taste. My son will be happy though, cuz there is a lot of batter:)

Wonderful Waffles

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
We really liked this recipe. I Got a new waffle iron and was looking for good, basic recipe. This one has a good, waffle not pancake texture I was looking for. Puffed up nicely. Added 1 teaspoon vanilla and melted the butter. I think a dash of salt too. Really not that time consuming. Awesome waffle for topping with fruit. Really enjoyed, thanks!

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2009
Hubby and I both really liked this. Kiddos thought it was too spicy. I think next time, I would add less hot sauce or maybe add a hot pepper that's more traditional chinese to the adult's. I know that my kids would love the sweetness of it then. That being said, I did flour the chicken and browned it really well. I added julienned carrots to the sauce, and simmered the sauce while browning the chicken and cooking the rice. When the chicken was browned, added the sauce and let it cook down. I know others have said this, but it really is restaurant quality and taste. My sauce thickened up beautifully! An hour later, after the leftovers were in the fridge and I went to do dishes, I actually scraped the sauce from the pan, and ate it. Excellent!

Chunky Monkey Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
I really liked these. I was lazy today and used Mrs. Butterworth's pancake mix, and added the bananas and regular chocolate chips. Love the banana flavor, and it really works with the chocolate. Also, it is very filling, held us over until lunch, which is unusual. Surprisingly, the kids did not like it as much as I and the hubby prefers his stuff plain. Boring for them:)

Southwest Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
Excellent as written, made no changes!!! My seven yr old daughter cried out "this is the best chicken I have ever had!!!!" I only made one batch because you never know. I will make double next time. I usually have a problem with the cheese coming out, but that's ok because this time I just spooned it over the chicken. I personally was not sure about the chili powder, but it all works together perfectly. LOVE the green chilies and parmesan flavors. Somewhat addicting, as right now about 3 hours after eating it, I am wishing there were some left to snack on!!! Great submission, thanks!

No Sugar Apple Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2008
I made this for a diabetic friend as a treat, but we all loved it!! I loved the fact that it has no artificial sweetner that would give it a fake taste. I only cooked the apples in the juice a little, so they were not mushA previous reviewer said that the no sugar added apple juice concentrate had a lot of sugar, it is the natural sugar of the apple, not white sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

Campfire Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
We were going to do these on a camping trip over the open fire, but were rained out. I did them in a 9 x 13 at 375 for about 45 minutes covered. Then I added more cheese over the top and broiled them for a couple of minutes. We really enjoyed the flavor of these. They were mild, but you could really taste the individual ingredients. Super! I would up the Wort. and maybe add some fresh garlic nest time. The onions in the mixture were awesome, too!

Chicken Satay

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
Really good, lots of flavor. Used recipe as written, marinated for about 3 hours, threaded on wood skewers. Served with mac and cheese, (just in case the kiddos didn't like the chicken, I know....) cheesy green beans, and homemade butter fan rolls out of a vintage Crisco cookbook. My 7 YO girl hugged me and said it was the best I ever did!! Hubby said we wouldn't like it, which is his best compliment. Thanks for the great recipe!
