About this Cook
I've lived a nice life, a bit boring maybe, but God gave me wonderful children.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make soups. My grandmother loved to bake, and her favorite was making candy. I must take after her; I also love to make candy....my problem is people tend to not want to eat candy anymore with all the health news out there.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking tradition is to cook on Holidays. Those great big meals. My problem is that I don't have the stamina to do it anymore!
My cooking triumphs
My ex husband used to call me for all my recipes...I call that a triumph, don't you! Today he is a fabulous cook!
My cooking tragedies
When I first married, my husband loved baked beans and thought I made the best. I wouldn't know because I didn't like beans. One day he said I should make bean soup. oh ok, so I made it and gave it to him in his lunch thermos. I got a call from him after lunch. He seemed quite alarmed??!! whad I know??? I had just added my favorite ingredient for the baked beans....brown sugar..need I say more???

Chicken Pot Pie IX
I have been doing this chicken and all like this since I first got married in 1956! However, I never bothered to use a bottom crust. Why??? if some is left over (rarely) you don't have soggy undercrust! Just put the crust on top only!! you can use pre made crust, but it's easy to make your own and add a little more salt to it! This way, you don't have as many calories from the bottom crust!!!

Whiskey Cake I
I used a good pound cake recipe in a Turk's head pan. I put some of the nuts in bottom of the pan, and made sure it was baked long enough!!! My glaze has 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup butter ...boil a few min. (do not stir) then add 1/4 cup whiskey. I used knitting needles to poke holes in the cake then poured the glaze over it. Let sit awhile then turn the cake out onto plate. Been doing this for almost 30 yrs.

Summer Chicken Salad
This is good, but I deleted the dill weed and added some fresh scrapings of ginger. Perfect!
