I get bored real easy, so I need variety. I have experimented with various types of cuisines due to my desire for variety. I love to cook and bake, so our dinners are pretty much sit down at the table every night to a balanced homecooked meal.
My favorite things to cook
I really don't have a favorite to cook. I enjoy the baking aspect as well as the general cooking. I do enjoy cake decorating, but hate the mess it leaves so I have put the brakes on baking cakes and decorating them for all of my friends.
My favorite family cooking traditions
During the holidays is wonderful. I am known all around for my pecan pies, so I must bake one on every holiday. I also love doing sugar cookie cut-outs, making the frosting and letting the children decorate.
My cooking triumphs
I am great at cake decorating with just a couple of Wilton Cake Deco classes. It has been great in creating all my children's birthday cakes. I have also made a little money on the side doing cakes for friends. My greatest triumph as a gift, was the french vanilla wedding cake with raspberry jam between the layers for a friend's renewal of wedding vows. It was 3 tiers and I used my homemade buttercream frosting. So many people raved over the cake and wondered who her caterer was.
My cooking tragedies
Chicken and Dumplings! When my husband (from the south) and I (from the north) were first married, I wanted to make him his favorite dish. Chicken and Dumplings from the south are rolled out pastry strips; in the north they are lumps of dough: both placed in boiling broth, but with two different outcomes. I being an unexperienced cook, placed the dough by tablespoonfuls in chicken broth but it was not boiling. What a sticky, goopy mess!
My husband humbly ate them and consoled me that it filled the empty spot. I knew they tasted just plain nasty!
