About this Cook
I'm a Web writer and editor specializing in a few categories, one of which is cooking. I manage content for a large culinary portal. I also write quite a bit about women's issues, particularly as it relates to health and fertility.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy trying new things, and often go through phases. I'll be really into Thai or Indian curries one week, hearty soups the next; one week I'll be really into pumpkin (pumpkin bread, cookies, pancakes, etc), the next week I'll dig summer squash. Long story short, I love making ANYTHING that isn't deep-fried. Stir-fries, grilled fish, curries, stews, soups, casseroles, baked goods, Mexican specialties--I really do love it all!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I eat a mostly vegetarian diet (I eat fish once in a while, so I suppose I'm a pescatarian!). This is new for me, and my husband is a true carnivore. We're both very healthy. I live in California now, but grew up in Kansas. My parents were true meat-and-potatoes people, and the looooooved most anything fried and covered in gravy. It was yummy, but I didn't inherit their cooking styles!

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II
I should have reviewed this months ago--it's a fantastic soup! I've cut back on the bacon and used milk rather than cream and it's still good, but not as good as the full fat version. It's almost worth the calories for an occasional treat. Delicious!

Baked Sesame Chicken
Okay as is, but awesome with a few additions. For those who thought it was a little plain, I recommend dipping the chicken in teriyaki sauce rather than soy sauce. Just a light store-bought variety works great! I serve this on top of pan-fried rice w/ stir-fried broccoli and pineapple chunks. Quite yummy!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust
This recipe was awesome! This is the first time I've ever made my own bread/dough of any kind, but it turned out perfect. I would recommend spicing it up a bit, however. I added garlic and onion powder, but it could have used more. I did sprinkle some garlic seasoning, parmesan, and corn meal on the pan before placing the dough on it,however, so I did get a hint of something extra with each bite. A great dough for experimenting!
