Bev's Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2008
I enjoyed this meal for the most part but found it a little too salty. I think next time I will use half as much onion soup mix and possibly cut back on the soya sauce. My preschoolers loved the chicken and I didn't even have leftovers. The only reason I didn't give this 4 stars was that I felt it was too salty

Absolutely Delicious Baked Root Vegetables

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2008
I just wanted to note that my original recipe called for Montreal Steak Spice which has a lot more flavor and depth than regular steak seasoning salts. If you do not have this seasoning you can make an approximation of it using 2 parts paprika, course grind balck pepper and salt to 1 part garlic powder, onion powder, crushed corriander, dill and crushed red pepper flakes.

Southwest Stuffed Burgers

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2007
This was a very good recipe!! My husband loved it and so did I. I used miracle whip instead of mayo and chedder cheese instead of the other because that was what I had on hand! I served it on garlic taosted buns with tomato, onion, lettuce and the sauce. Delicious! I will be adding this to my recipe file.

Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2007
This was wonderful!!!! I used a 6 pound double smoked, fully cooked picnic ham and put it in the slow cooker with 1/2 the amount of water in the recipe. I cooked it on low for 8 hours. 2 hours before the time was up I removed the drippings, skimmed the fat of the top and added the honey and brown sugar and cloves. I did not use liquid smoke or worchestershire sauce. I actually doubled the amount of glaze as I had two cups of drippings and didn't see the sense in wasting them. I poured it back over the ham and let it cook for an hour and a half. I then turned the crock setting to high and removed the lid and basted the ham cooked for half an hour more and pulled the ham out to rest. I then took the drippings and boiled them on the stovetop gently to reduce. I served this with baked root vegetables, a salad and some steamed green beans and the glaze reduction on the side which was excellent for adding onto the root veggies and the ham. Everyone loved the ham and I have only enough left to make a casserole with!

Jacinto's

These cookies were pretty good. There are a few changes I will make next time I make them but that is due to personal preference. I will be adding some cinnamon and nutmeg next time. I added some to the last 3rd of the batch and loved them that much more.

Crispy Breakfast Quesadilla

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2007
I just finished trying this recipe for breakfast. I did not have apricot jam so I used raspberry jam instead. I also used whole eggs instead of egg product. I beat two eggs with a tablespoon full of milk and a 1/2 cup of diced cooked ham and a handfull of shredded cheddar cheese. I poured this into a preheated pan and scrambled. when the eggs were done I started heating the tortillas in another skillet and placed eggs on one half, jam on the other half. I also sprinkled a little shredded cheddar over the eggs and folded over and removed to plate and cut into 4ths. My 2 year old and 4 year old seemed to like them. I actually was suprised at how much I enjoyed this breakfast. I was skeptical of jam with eggs but everything complimented each other quite well. I will probably make again in the future.

Quacker Jack

Excellent recipe!! I made this as part of my Christmas gifts and it was a hit. I am making more today as everyone has been bugging me since they ran out. The only changes I made were to use my air popper to pop the popcorn (no oil used) and to add some vanilla to the liquid candy after removing from the heat. Excellent!! Thank you.

Chocolate Eclair Cake

I am sorry to say that I did not enjoy this dessert and neither did my 2 small children. I did not find that the flavors melded well and found it overly sweet for me. I am not used to useing packaged foods though and generally make things from scratch so that may be why I found it too sweet.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2006
I am changing my rating to 5 stars because I just made it again for the second time and it was fabulous. I haven't seen my 4 year old clean a plate that fast in ages. I seasoned my pork chops with black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and a little sage. I cooked them on the indoor grill while I made the sauce on the stovetop. A quick tip on making the sauce go further - add applesauce. I doubled te brown sugar, butter and cinnamon. I left the nutmeg the same as mine is strong. I brought the mixture to a boil and let it simmer, stirring occasionaly. I served it with a half and half mixture of brown and white rice and some mixed veggies. What an absolutely satisfying meal!! My original review is below. I loved this recipe. The only reason I am only giving it 4 stars is because I felt it was missing something the first time I tried it. It was good but I felt like there was a flavor missing. I will definately make this again!! Thank you for the great Idea!!!

French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2006
This is a great recipe!! I used a 5 lb outside round roast and seasoned it with Montreal Steak spice and garlic powder and browned it in a skillet with some olive oil. I then put it in the crock pot and mixed the broth. I used a large container of Sodium reduced Cambells beef broth, minced garlic instead of garlic powder and the full amount of soy sauce. I used only half of the rosemary and time the recipe called for as I noted this was mentioned in other reviews. I skipped the bay leaf (personal prefference). I also added 1 package fo Lipton french onion soup mix. I cooked on high for 3 hours and then switched to low for 4 hours. I probably could have cooked on low for the 7 hours I had and the roast would have been done but I think that might be my crock pots personality! The meal tasted great!! I serveed it with home made hoagie buns still warm from the oven with sauted mushrooms and onions, and slices of sharp cheddar cheese, Mashed potatoes, and fresh raw veggies and dip. Everyone loved it and the Jus tasted wonderful on the mashed potatoes and the sandwiches. I will make this again sometime. Thanks for the recipe.

Hawaiian Style Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2006
I give this 5 stars for it's simplicity and for being a quick meal. It has nice flavor and the kids loved it. I enjoyed it but will play with the seasonings some more to suit my personal tastes. I did decide to sprinkle chedder and mozza cheese over the top of the dish when 5 minutes were left and cover so the cheese melted nicely. It was very tasty (almost like pizza). I will be making this again.

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

These are a hit. My husband is quite picky and he loved this entree. Even my 2 year loved this. I used chicken thighs instead of breasts and they were moist and tender when done. I followed the recipe exactly other than that. Thanks for this great recipe.

Lana's Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2006
Excellent!!!! I made a half recipe of meatballs which made about 24 and baked in the oven for 15 minutes. I used frozen peas and carrots instead of just carrots and I also used apple juice to top up the pineapple juice. It all turned out wonderfully. I loved it. My 13 month old loved them but I couldn't get my 2.5 year old to even taste them but I think that has more to do with being 2ish and strong willed than with the recipe!! All in all I loved it and will make this recipe again.

Skillet Chops with Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2004
My husband and daughter absolutely loved this dish. I also enjoyed the flavors. I substituted cracker and cereal crumbs as I had no bread and I added a few spices to the crumb mixture besides the parmesan (garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, italian seasoning). Other than that I follwed the recipe except I added a full cup of half water and half milk nad a can of mushrooms lightly drained and found the gravy was plenty thick. I served this with rice for myself and egg noodles for the rest of my family. I will definately make this again.

Beer and Brown Sugar Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2004
This marinade is not bad but we found the beer flavor a little strong. I tried it on both pork and beef cuts but it is not turning out to be a favorite for my family. Probably because my husband prefers more spices and less sweet flavors.

Simmering Chicken Strawberry Kabobs

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2004
Very tasty and unique. I enjoyed these but knew that my husband would not as he hates pineapple. The texture of cooked strawberries was definately different and the berries look a little sad when cooked but very nice flavor!! I probably won't make these often as I am the only one who likes them in my family. (Baby is too young to eat these!)

Tzatziki Sauce II

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2004
Excellent!! What can I say we loved it. I like it better than a lot of the sauces you get in restaurants even. I forgot to press moisture out of the cucumbers but it still turned out great and I did not drain the yogurt either. It kept well in the fridge and it disappeared quickly. No wastage here! Thank you for the great recipe.

Gyros Burgers

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2004
The whole family really loves this recipe. It has nice flavor and is a nice change of pace from your basic burger. Next time I make it though I think I will mix the spices into the meat and refrigerate for a couple of hours to let the flavors go through the meat better. I used only ground beef as we did not have lamb available and we loved them served with the suggested pitas and toppings and tazitki sauce. Thank you for a wonderful recipe.

Very Berry Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2004
I used mixed berries from the frozen foods aisle and added extra sugar as suggested. They were quite good but next time I think I wikll add a little lemon rind and cinnamon/nutmeg to bring out the flavors. They were all eaten and enjoyed by my family however and I love the added oatmeal in the recipe.
