I only made a few changes. I cubed a Ham, leftover from Christmas, added the bone and cooked in a electric roaster. In the roaster you will not have any scorching or burning on the bottom or sides. This is great because you can let it go for hours with only a little stirring of the mixture. I also use this method for chili,and others that burn easily. The recipie looks like a lot to do, but it no harder then chicken soup, from scratch. This soup is almost like a Minestrone, less the noodles.
