About this Cook
I am a stay at home grandma of two precious grandchildren, and mom of two grown sons. My interests are crocheting, fitness health, walking, photography, collecting recipes and recipe books, cooking, and baking. I also sell crochet books on Ebay. I love trying new recipes and love to adapt them to what I feel is the perfect combination of flavors. Allrecipes has made the search for new recipes so much easier and less time consuming. I use to spend hours going through my recipe books looking for a particular recipe or for a new one to try. I still have my recipe book collection, but Allrecipes is my favorite recipe search tool.
My favorite things to cook
My first love is for baking, cookies and bars are my favorite. Cooking is something I enjoy most when it is for a crowd, it gives me an opportunity to try new recipes that my family would not appreciate, or maybe even try. I am always looking for an interesting crowd pleaser salad recipe. As the years have gone by I have found the more creative side of myself and am not afraid to experiment or adapt a recipe to my and my families personal preferences, it makes cooking and baking even more interesting and fun.
My favorite family cooking traditions
An Italian menu has become tradition in my home on Christmas Eve. My favorite holiday to cook for is Thanksgiving, a day that is reserved for many of the recipes I grew up with, those passed down from my mom.
My cooking triumphs
Winning ribbons for my cream filled cupcakes and my lemon poppyseed cookies at the Minnesota State Fair.
My cooking tragedies
I have had many, but it becomes an opportunity to learn what works and what doesn't work with each recipe. I believe it makes me a better cook the next time around. Tip: Make notes about changes made to each recipe so that you have a record. I am always adapting recipes and do not always remember what changes I make. I also rate each recipe that I try.

Banana Cake VI
I have never made a more moist or delicious homemade cake then this! The flavor and the texture is heavenly! I did freeze the cake as indicated in the recipe. I am thinking that the reason for that is too help keep more moisture in the cake that otherwise would be lost using a slower cooling process. I also made a small cake using a mini loaf pan that I did not cool in the freezer, and it was still very moist. You will still have a very moist cake if you decide to skip the freezing process. I frosted my cake with a caramel frosting recipe from this site, Caramel Frosting V, wonderful combination of flavors!

Caramel Frosting V
Excellent caramel frosting recipe. The recipe isn't too clear on how to achieve a creamy frosting as in the picture. No addition of powder sugar to an already oversweet frosting is necessary. Cool mixture completely and then refrigerate for about an hour. Beat to creamy consistency. Using the Banana Cake VI recipe from this site (another excellent recipe!), I frosted a 13"x9" cake and still had about a cup of frosting left over. Cooking mixture as indicated in the recipe, and cooling and then refrigerating mixture is essential to achieve a wonderfully creamy caramel frosting. Thanks so much for sharing!

Best Ever Banana Bread
My five year old granddaughter voted this the best banana bread ever! Wonderfully moist and full of flavor. The batter is similiar to that of a cake. I took the suggestion of another and substituted l/2 cup of the white sugar for brown sugar for added flavor. Sprinkled loafs with sugar crystals before baking for an added crunch on top. Made 3 mini loafs, decreasing baking time to 40-45 minutes. This is a must try recipe for banana bread lovers!
