About this Cook
I live in a small apartment now and because of illnesses and operations, I really haven't had guests over for dinner except some of my family. I want to try to ease my way into having some people over, so I will start with having casseroles.
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles; desserts; vegetables; soups
My favorite family cooking traditions
Shepherd's Pie; Cheesecake; Goo Goos (leftover spaghetti, sliced hot dogs, onions, tomato sauce)
My cooking triumphs
Nobody has died from my cooking, so I guess that's a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
A spice cake that took a gazzilion spices. Made it according to the recipe, never varied from it. Had to bake it for 40 minutes longer than called for and when I turned it over to get it out of the pan, it slithered all over the counter. Never really set. Had to throw the whole thing out. Waaaaaa

The Best Banana Bread
I used half regular and half brown sugar; added 1 tsp. vanilla; used 4 over-ripe bananas and sprinkled regular sugar on top for a nice crust. It was very moist and delicious. I will certainly use this recipe again.

Baked Oatmeal II
This was the first time I made baked oatmeal. I had it for a group of ladies I had over for a Prayer Connection and everyone said they really enjoyed it. Then 2 days later I had my Sister-In-Law (a long time fan of baked oatmeal) and a friend over for some leftovers. My Sister-In-Law said it was the best baked oatmeal she ever had. It was nice and sweet with the brown sugar, and the cranberries just made it a little tart also. I will definitely make it again. It froze well and I just thawed it out and popped it in the microwave.

Mongolian Strawberry-Orange Juice Smoothie
I'm just starting to get into smoothies, and this was delicious. I did take the advice of others, and added some banana. The only thing I found was that the ice cubes didn't chop up too well, so I took the big chunks out. Probably because my blender isn't very strong. I definitely will make this again.
