About this Cook
I have an adventurous palate and enjoy cooking for myself and friends. When I get a great dish at a restaurant, my first thought is "How can I make this at home?" I started collecting vintage cookbooks about 15 years ago. I especially like the community/church auxiliary books. It's a great way to find good recipes for regional dishes.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite recipes are simple meals that use fresh, seasonal items. I also like to try out Asian, Mexican, and Italian recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday cookies! Every year I make favorites and try out a few new recipes.
My cooking triumphs
I am the queen of biscotti! I started with a basic recipe found on allrecipes.com and made up at least a dozen variations. When my cousin was searching for easy cookie recipes for her wedding cookie trays, I shared my biscotti variations. On the wedding day, her Italian aunties were full of compliments!
My cooking tragedies
It took forever for me to learn to make gravy - it can still be an iffy situation. Once on Thanksgiving, my gravy set like pudding in the gravy boat!

Biscotti
Easy and foolproof. I get requests for these biscotti all of the time. Endless variations. My favorite: replace 1/2 cup of flour with 1/2 cup of Cocoa, increase sugar to 1 + 1/3 cup total (or to taste). Stir in toasted, slivered almonds. Add a splash of amaretto instead of anise extract. Yummy!~

Jam Filled Butter Cookies
These were a big hit at Christmas. I liked the simplicity of the ingredients, and they tasted great! Very tender cookie, not too sweet. Refrigerating the dough really improved the ease of handling. I used a small food scoop to portion the cookies, and the handle of a wooden spoon makes dainty divots to hold the jam. This recipe will stay in the cookie collection for a long time!
