Perfect Apple Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
This really is the perfect apple pie. I made my crusts using the recipe on the shortening package and followed the pie filling recipe to a T. It was a total hit. Thanks for the recipe!

Kabob Marinade

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
I have now made this recipe twice and it is terrific. First time I followed it exactly, except for the meat tenderizer. 2nd time I used 1/2 the amount of oil and it worked just as well. I always marinate my meat is a ziploc bag so I don't need as much marinade.

Blender Hollandaise Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
if the rating was based only on ease of preparation, this would definitely get 5 stars however as is, the final result not thick enough for our liking and we did not care for the dijon. I will absolutely try it again but without the dijon and find a way to get it thicker. I hate complicating this sauce since the beauty of it is that it doesn't have to be cooked but I think to get a thick sauce I'll have to cook it and add a bit of cornstarch or flour.

Breaded Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
Terrific! This is so simple and easy. I followed the receipe excatly, except for the way the brussel sprouts are actually cooked, and everyone loved it. I always cook my veggies in the microwave. Just a quick trim and then I throw them in a plastic container with about a tbps of water and steam perfectly in the microwave. This recipe is easy enough for every day, fancy enough for a special event. Thanks for the recipe.

Lemon and Cilantro Shrimp

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
This was a good base for my shrimp pasta dish. I used 2 lemons and it was excellent. Can't imagine it with 6 lemons. I added some asparagus cut in bite sized pieces and would have added mushrooms if I had them on hand.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
Yum, yum, yum! In reading the ingredients, I thought this would be a bit too sweet, and I did cut back on the sugar just a bit. It was perfect. Everyone loved it! I will cut back on the amount of cranberries next time and will look to add some sort of cheese. Maybe a nice creamy neutral goat cheese that can take on that yummy dressing. Thanks for the recipe!

Savory Roasted Root Vegetables

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
Wow! I know it's just a bunch of root vegetables, but this was really good. I am not a big fan of beets but the veggies just go so sweet, even the beets weren't well, "beety"... I made a huge batch and served it at Christmas diner and people loved it. The color was beautiful! The only change I made was to omit the chick peas and add parsnips. Thanks for this great recipe!

Bloody Mary Bites

I was looking forward to these so much and was terribly dissapointed. I followed the recipe exactly and they just taste terrible. I love Bloody Mary. Love tomatoes, celery salt, everyting. But it just didn't work. Great concept though.

Cinnamon Coffee Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
Good but not great. The only change I made to the recipe was to use raisins instead of nuts. I did not find the coffee flavor to be noticable nor the overall taste to be anything more than plain.

Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
Yum! I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out great! I prepared the salsa and started marinating the fish 2 days ahead. Will definitely make this again and want to try it using pork chops or pork tenderloin.

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
This was good but not great for me. I enjoyed how simple and fast it was to make, but would consider this more of a base for a good pasta dish than the complete version. The taste is good but a bit too simple for our taste. I realize there are very few ingredients, so what was I to expect, nevetheless, it was missing something. I will try it again but will add fresh basil, maybe pine nuts and definitely shrimp. That will probably be a more satisfying meal.

Cocktail Meatballs III

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
These were really good but didn't knock my socks off. I would not use hand torn bread again though. I would use the traditional bread crumbs; the bread pieces were sometimes to evident even if I tore them quite small. Missing a bit of zing for my taste but if you like a very sweet cocktail meatball, this one's for you.

Mexican Cream Cheese Rollups

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
This is an easy way to prepare a trayfull of delicious appetizers. A bit of advice; make sure you don't use the "chunky" style salsa because you just can't pick up chucks with these bite-sized roll ups. I'm sure these would also be good dipped in a sour cream/salsa combination. Maybe next time.

Raspberry Chocolate Torte

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
Oh my God! I made this? Absolutely everything about this cake is wonderful; taste, presentation, easy to prepare. The recipe calls for finely chopped pecans and I tend to think that bigger pieces are usually better than small ones, like in banana bread, but it really is best to finely chop the pecans in this recipe; bigger pieces are not as pleasant to eat in a cake. I used 8" pans so my cakes were a bit thicker than with a 9" pan. Because of this, I made a 3 layer cake and used what would have been the 4th layer to make mini cakes for my husband and I; I cut out rouds with a cookie cutter and made mini 2 layer cakes. YUM! I will certainly be making this again. Thanks for this terrific recipe!

Crab Salad III

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
Terrific. Seashell pasta for a crab salad, how cute! Why didn't I think of that? Anyway, I did not have celery but will use it next time. I'm not sure how much of a diference 1/2 packet of sweetener does, I had some so I used it but I probably won't bother with it next time. I'm glad to finaly find a pasta salad that isn't dreneched ith mayo. Thanks for the recipe.

Salmon Cakes II

This was terrific. I love that I can make this lunch or diner using ingredients I usualy have on hand. I made a simple dipping sauce using mayonnaise, lemon juice and "essence", a mix of spices and herbs inspired from chef Emeril Legace of course. It's a keeper.
