About this Cook
I am a newly wed who has a wonderful husband that is willing to try any of my latest recipes. We have recently expanded our family and now have a wonderful son named Dane. We also have one dog (who loves when I cook so she can scoop up all the crumbs off the floor) and two adorable cats. My favourite days of the week are the weekends when I get to make a huge breakfast and enjoy it over a few cups of coffee with my hubby. I am also looking forward to having a hand in being a cook/baker as a mom!
My favorite things to cook
Breakfast!!! Scones, muffins, quiches, egg scrambles, french toast, crepes. I enjoying making absolutely everything from scratch - including dinners with homemade pasta and sauces, slow roasts, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big hearty breakfast, good coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice.
My cooking triumphs
I prepared a cannelloni dish with pasta handmade from scratch. It took me 3 hours to prepare the pasta, the filling, the sauce and then put it all together. It was the most fabulous valentines gift I made for my sweet hubby!
My cooking tragedies
I one time tried a "healthy" approach to a sugar cookie recipe. I tried using mostly whole wheat flour (instead of white). They sort of tasted like dog biscuits. (Good thing I have a dog!) I realized that "healthy" and "sugar cookies" just can't be used in the same sentence.

Boiled Bagels
These bagels are very delicious, but this was my very first attempt at making bagels. Anyone new to making bagels should note that the instructions should mention that the bagels must be placed in the oven immediately after boiling. I didn't have a big enough pot to boil all the bagels at once, so I had to boil them in two separate batches. The first batch that I boiled then left to sit and wait for the second batch came out of the oven very dense and rubbery. However, the batch that went directly from the boiling water into the oven came out wonderfully!

Barbeque Chicken
Very tasty! I threw it all in the slow cooker on low for 6 hours (as opposed to the oven), and it turned out fabulously!

Bacon Quiche
I found this dish to be a little bit rich. The 1/4 cup of melted butter is not necessary, as the grease from the bacon is plenty enough. I did like the smoky taste of the bacon with the biscuit mixture, so I think a good substitution would be to use back bacon or thinly sliced ham instead of the regular bacon.
