About this Cook
Hello! If I could cook and bake all day I would. I LOVE being in the kitchen and trying out new recipes...it's finding the time that gets me!
My favorite things to cook
Things that people wouldn't expect you can make at home.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year I make my fiance double sided apple crisp (yes found on this website!) and he LOVES it. I also make my family all of their birthday cakes, including a castle cake and an Avril lavigne inspired cake for my niece (frosting recipe found here as well!) Every year I make sugar cookies for christmas and decorate them all pretty....unfortunately that means nobody will eat them but the kids (cause they don't care as long as it's cookies!)
My cooking triumphs
apple crisp, apple pie, cookies and tarts are my specialties
My cooking tragedies
ugh.... I hate when I don't have everything for a recipe and try to substitute unsuccessfully!

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
My mother in law requested I make this for mother's day. She asked what lemon filling I used...I told her "my own!" and she couldn't believe how perfect it tasted! **a few tips** Make sure you whip the wgg whites until soft peaks form (not just when they are foamy)...it takes longer if you put the sugar in too soon! Also, I put the meringue on when the lemon curd was still hot, waited until the pie was completely cooled before I put it in the fridge....then took it out after 4 hours and it was weepy and the meringue pulled away from the sides. But the taste was amazing!

Apple Crisp II
I only have one apple crisp recipe I use but thought I would try another one just to see. The only change I made was I only used a half a cup of the white sugar. THIS WAS SOOOO GOOD. This is my new favorite crisp recipe. The topping never got gloopy, really kept it's shape and when reheated tasted like cobbler. mmmm yummy.

Bread and Celery Stuffing
I halved this recipe since I only had a half a loaf of bread. The taste was great but it was gummy and parts of it were kind of hard and stuck together. We still ate it and I will probably make it again but maybe I won't cook it for as long as I did and increase the liquid perhaps.
