About this Cook
My mother started making me cook dinner for the entire family one day a week when I was 12. I am now 50 and still love trying new recipes. My youngest daughter, 14, wants to be either a chef or nutritionist and is a wonderful cook herself. I am a self-employed family law attorney married to a self-employed florist. At one time we had 3 children at home, now we're down to my future chef. Of course, my older daughter and son can't cook anything that's not microwaved!
My favorite things to cook
Any new recipe. Baking breads and cakes; using the crock pot so that we can eat home cooked meals nearly every night even though both my husband and I have our own businesses and work 50-60 hours a week. I presently have 4 crockpots and it's not unuusal to have 2 or 3 going at once! I am the Crock Pot Queen!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making things such as whipped cream and icing from scratch. Also, grilling out over charcoal year round. Thanksgiving dinner--tbis year will be the 26th time I've cooked everything because all of the family is eldery or out-of-town. We never have a turkey under 25 pounds.
My cooking triumphs
In the 28 years we've been together, my husband says I have only made one bad meal--and that was when we first dating. It involved pork chops in a crock pot.
My cooking tragedies
Last winter I tried to cook baked potato soup for 50 people and my old range was not up to it. I couldn't keep that much soup from separating. I was embarrassed to serve it.

Baked Beef Stew
My mother used to make this stew which she called "French Beef Stew". I lost her recipe and then found this one, which is her exact recipe. I just made it for 50 people for a church dinner and got nothing but rave reviews. I had several people comment that it was the best beef stew they've ever eaten.

Butternut Squash Soup II
This has become a family favorite. I make it just like the recipe, then serve with a dollup of plain low-fat yogurt and a sprinkle of shredded parmesan cheese.

Marinated Baked Pork Chops
I sent leftovers home with my college student, who called and said "Do NOT lose the recipe for that sauce!"
