I've followed some recipes and ventured out on my own but I don't really know what works with what. So far I've been lucky - my cooking experiments have been successful. I just dread that day when we sit down to eat something I made and we both hate it!
My favorite things to cook
I like to grill and slow cooking is great for me because I get a break between prep, cleaning up, and the actual enjoyment of a meal. It also makes timing things easy! My biggest desire is to come up with a pizza recipe. Sauce and dough make a pizza special. Cheese blend helps too but until I get the sauce and crust right, straight mozzerella will cut it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hot Dog Stew is a family staple - try raising 10 kids from non-union blue-collar jobs! It's not as bad as it sounds. Grandma always says the cheap hot dogs make it taste the best.
My cooking triumphs
My first big meal was Thanksgiving with all the trimmings cooked from a wheelchair. 3 of my buddies from college came out to my apartment in Chicago and I cooked up a feast. I didn't know I could pull it off, considering I'd broken my neck 12 months before this. It was a rousing success!
My cooking tragedies
So far I've been lucky. The worst thing I've faced an oven that didn't heat properly... it took 3 hours to cook what should have taken 45 minutes. Talk about dried out!
