About this Cook
I'm a SAHM to 5 children, 10 and under (one set of twins). Cooking right now is a challenge, because I prefer to not be distracted in the kitchen!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We celebrate half birthdays with a round cake, cut in half and stacked.
My cooking triumphs
I recently made and decorated a sponge cake from scratch for a friend's baby shower. Many people wanted to know which bakery the cake came from!
My cooking tragedies
While making gravy in my mother-in-law's kitchen for Thanksgiving dinner, I was perplexed that the gravy wasn't thickening properly. Turns out my dear MIL kept powdered sugar in what I thought was the flour container! The flour was on the other side of the kitchen. Fortunately, I was able to add the proper amount of flour and spices to properly thicken and save the dish. We didn't tell anyone going into dinner. The first words from my husband upon tasting the gravy... "This is the best gravy I've ever tasted!" Every year since then, we always joke about remembering to add the sugar to the gravy.

No Bake Cookies V
Very good recipe! I used the microwave rather than the stovetop. Bringing the mixture to a boil, then checking every 30 seconds with the instant-read thermometer to get to soft-ball stage (235)!

Honey Wheat Bread
This is a good bread for sandwiches. I heated the wet ingredients in the microwave, stirring every minute until, my thermometer read 125 degrees. My only change was to add Vital Wheat Gluten (the box says to use 4 tsp per loaf) to the dry ingredients. I also allowed for one extra rising time. 30 minutes was all the time needed to bake. Cutting with an electric, serrated knife made for clean slices!

Banana-Chip Oat Muffins
Very Moist! I pureed the banana in the blender with the other wet ingredients & brown sugar; then added them to the dry mixture that had been whisked together. Used canola oil instead of butter. Only had regular semi-sweet chocolate chips (not mini) and it worked!
