About this Cook
I'm a 38 year old happily married mother of six wonderful kids ages 19, 18, 16, 15, 12 and 11 ! Having such a large family has made cooking a very important part of my life. I've had to learn how to stretch my dollar as well as prepare meals that are filling, healthful and delicious. Kids are extremely honest so I think I've been lucky to have the best critics to help me judge whether a new recipe is worthy or not. My husband enjoys cooking as well and is a wonderful baker. We've been preparing "specialties" together now for 15 years.
My favorite things to cook
I'm into southern food especially. I guess I'd like to call it "comfort food". I'm into those great "heavy" meals. I love to bake cakes and cookies and I'm finally getting pretty good at pies too. I love spicy mexican style cooking and I'm learning how to prepare Italian style desserts. (Cannoli is a bad habit of mine!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I still call my 90 year old grandmother and ask her for cooking tips and recipes. Isn't food one of the all time great family traditions? I love to try a new recipe out on my kids and neighbors....if the neigbor asks for the recipe I know I've done good. I look forward to baking up cookies and cakes and sharing them all during each holiday season. Even Halloween is an excuse for me to pass out cookies
My cooking triumphs
When my kids say "MMMMMMMMm, Dinner is GOOD tonight mom!" and everyone wants seconds...that is a triumph to me. Also I have a few recipies that my husband and I have created together that people continually ask for. That always feels great!
My cooking tragedies
The last Baked Macaroni recipe I tried. UGH! It turned out terribly.

Sour Cream Lemon Pie
I followed this recipe to a T and it's great! I do personally like a bit more "lemony-ness" and "sour creamy-ness" though. I loved the consistency and goodness of this pie so much I made it a second time around and added just a 1/4 more lemon juice and a 1/2 cup more sour cream to suit my tastes. This is a perfect recipe and I would eat it again even without my personal changes.(And again, and again...and again!!!)

Chiles Rellenos Pie
I think this recipe was quite good. To save time I used canned whole chiles minus stems and seeds. I used chopped rotisserie chicken and did not use the salsa on top but served it on the side along with refried beans and warm tortillas.(Salsa verde was a wonderful choice for this recipe) My finicky husband liked it too and even had seconds! After 16 years he still has some surprises up his sleeve.
