Lemon Sponge Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
It was easy to make and I enjoyed the flavour. Mine was overdone at 55 minutes so next time I'll bake it for 45 minutes. It's terrific with vanilla ice cream and the Supreme Strawberry Sauce on this site.

Supreme Strawberry Topping

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
Marvelous! I only used 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and applied a potato masher instead of cutting/pureeing the strawberries. I used frozen strawberries, so they were perfectly soft/mushy for saucing.

Hawaiian Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2007
YUM! I mixed the wet ingredients to the dry using the muffin method (make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients, pour in the liquid, and mix until just blended). I also omitted the nuts and cherries, and used 25% less sugar. The coconut and pineapple are a wonderful addition. Thanks for sharing!

Hearty Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2007
Very delicious! I cooked it on low all day and left out the carrots. Instead, I added some frozen mixed veggies towards the end. I omitted the milk, as well. Thanks for sharing.

Tortellini Pesto Salad

This dressing is SO good! It tastes like it came from an Italian deli. I followed the recommendation below to omit the mayo and milk. Thanks for sharing.

French Toast I

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
This is perfectly good French toast. Next time I will use bread that is more stale, so that it's not so soft inside.

Croutons

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
Thanks for the recipe. I am too lazy to melt the margarine for a small serving, so I just spread it on both sides of the bread before cutting it into cubes. I like to sprinkle my croutons with oregano, basil and onion powder. The baking time is perfect.

Yummy Garlic Croutons

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
I used olive oil and tossed everything together in a bowl with a dash of salt before transferring to the cookie sheet. Next time I'll experiment with the herbs. Quick little recipe with great results! I'll never buy store croutons again. Thanks.

That Good Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
Magnificent! I left out the almonds because it already had so much good stuff in it. I also cheated by using garlic powder and soya bacon bits. This recipe is fantastic. I already look forward to making it again. Thanks.

Salmon Patties III

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2007
I hate to be the voice of dissent, but I did not care for these. I found them bland and dry. Some type of dipping sauce for accompaniment is a must. ETA: I'm changing my rating to give this an additional star because I found a creamy dill dressing for dipping that improves the flavour immensely.

Ma Po Tofu

Excellent Chinese comfort food! I only used half a teaspoon of chili paste and omitted the cayenne pepper entirely. This gave it a hint of spiciness that I enjoy.

Chili con Carne II

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2007
Excellent mild chili recipe. I tweaked it for ingredients that I had on hand, omitting the chile pepper, cloves, cinnamon and oil (browning the onions and garlic in the ground beef before draining). I halved the recipe and only had one can of tomatoes so I cut in some fresh tomatoes and added a half teaspoon of sugar to cut down on the acidity. To compensate for leaving out the chile pepper, I added a full tablespoon of chili powder and a quarter teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Because this chili is mild, I can eat more of it, which makes me happy. =)

Pita Chips

This recipe is so wonderful! I only used one pita round so I just dribbled on a bit of olive oil, spread it around with my fingers, and sprinkled on the seasonings. I look forward to playing with the combinations of herbs and spices. Thanks for sharing!

Winter Melon Meatball Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2007
I've been trying to find a winter melon soup recipe like mom makes and this one is very good. Thanks for sharing! The broth is missing some complexity of flavour however, and I'm not sure what it is. Perhaps next time I will try adding some dried mini shrimp and crack a salted duck egg into the broth. Since I like "stuff" in my soup, I also added some cubed medium-firm tofu during the last couple minutes of cooking. This was a very healthy meal. Thanks again!
