Hot Bacon Dressing

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
Absolutely delicious! My kids (even my picky eater) all loved it. I want to put it on salad, pasta, sandwiches, etc. I didn't put in the pimentos, used regular mustard instead of dijon, used rice vinegar, and used xantham gum instead of cornstarch. I added an extra cup of water because I didn't want so much zing. It made alot of dressing.

Delicious! So much better than bottled sauce. I didn't add bell pepper (didn't have any on hand) and added a can of tomato paste. YUM!

Really good! Kind of like Chinese chicken salad in a pasta form. Perfect for barbecues or potlucks.

Spinach Herb Twists

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2009
yummy! My picky children didn't care for it, but my husband and I thought it was delicious. I also put a completely different "twist" on this recipe and put butter and cinnamon on it instead of the spinach filling and made cinnamon twists. Delicious both ways

Poppy Seed Dressing II

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
Delicious! the perfect dressing. I did adjust the recipe a bit to make it easier and much more low fat. My version of this recipe has 3.5 grams of fat per serving, while the original has 14 grams of fat per serving. First of all I only used 1/4 cup oil, and I added 1 1/2 cups water. I added something called "xantham gum" it's a white powdery thickener that is often used in gluten free cooking. Commercial salad dressings use it to emulsify and thicken. You can buy it in the gluten free section of some grocery stores, or at a whole foods store. It's kindof expensive, but a little bit goes a long way. Also, instead of grating the onion and using the juice I just added 1/8 cup chopped onion. Blended everything except the poppy seeds in the blender until smooth and thick, then mixed in the poppy seeds at the end. Fabulous! Drizzled the dressing over spinach, almonds, mandarine oranges, and bacon!

I substituted applesauce for half the oil and used whole wheat flour. Loved this recipe, and so did the kids and my husband.

Sugar N Spice Popcorn

I love this recipe! It is so easy, and my family loves this. Because I have a child allergic to dairy, I used canola oil instead of butter. I heated the syrupy ingredients in the microwave instead of a saucepan. This recipe satisfied my sweet tooth. YUM!

Mandarin Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2009
I'm shocked that this recipe didn't recieve more 5 star reviews. It was abolutely delicious. I agree with the other reviewer, the mandarine oranges need to be added after all of the cooking is done so that they don't fall apart. Be gentle with them. I also pureed 3 fresh oranges in the blender for the orange juice. It gave it a very fresh delicious taste. I will definitely make this again.

Scrumptious Chicken Vegetable Stew

My kids said to rate this recipe 5 stars. This is the first time my son has eaten cooked spinach and actually liked it. I put in only a pinch of fennel seed. I also added leftover pasta and extra chicken broth. Delicious!

Pat's Baked Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
This kids and I loved it. It was very similar to what my Mom used to make on the 4th of July. I used dried onions and garlic powder in place of the fresh onion and garlic, I didn't have all the different beans so I just used 3 cans pork and beans, 1 can kidney beans, and 1 can great northern beans. I also used precooked bacon. I also cooked it longer than 1 hour (it could be because I still had some liquid from the canned beans) Very delicious!

These were delicious! The dough made a soft, sweet bread. I substituted vegetable oil for the shortning, and had put the dough ingredients into the bread maker to knead and rise. I want to try different fillings in these, because the dough made a wonderfully unique bread.

Banana Bread V

Very good! I added a little extra banana and decreased oil to 1/3 cup, added half brown sugar and half white sugar, and used whole wheat flour. I also wrapped tin foil over the top of the pans after I took them out of the oven, and let them sit for a half hour to lock in the moisture. Delicious!

It's Chili by George!!

This was delicious. I omitted the tomato juice and just added stewed tomatoes(I blended them in the blender because my son hates tomatoes. I added 2 cans of beef broth and some macaroni noodles. I only added 1 tsp of chili powder. And used half a can of tomato paste instead of tomato sauce. My kids loved it.

Sirloin Marinara

This was delicious. I didn't have any redwine, so I experimented and used frozen grape juice concentrate instead. I also added a few dashes worchestershire sauce, and pinch of brown sugar. It turned out wonderful. I also added mushrooms. I'm not sure how it was supposed to taste with red wine, but I really liked the end result with grape juice.

Green Tomato Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
This was actually delicious. I pureed the tomatoes in the blender (becuase I knew my kids would be suspicious if I didn't). I also added a teaspoon of lemon juice, to give it a little more acid for the baking soda. I also used whole wheat flour. It was a wonderful moist cake. I will definitely make this next year.

These were really good. They were soft and cake like. I used 1/2 whole wheat flour and 1/2 white flour. I would like to try these 100% whole wheat flour, and see if I can reduce the sugar, without sacrificing taste. Delicious

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2008
This is by far the best zucchini bread that I have made. I followed users advice and only used half the oil. I had planned on using applesauce for the other half, only to realize that I was out, so I used two bananas to replace the oil instead. I also used whole wheat flour to replace all of the flour, and reduced the sugar to 2 cups the first time that I made it and then 1 3/4 cups the second time that I made it. I also increased the zucchini to 2 1/2 cups. It turned out fabulous! It is a very moist, delicious and sweet bread.
