I used to HATE to cook, because being a working mother, it was always a rush when I got home from work to put a meal on the table. Now that my kids are grown and on their own, I have found myself looking forward to my time in the kitchen! Cooking and entertaining has become a joy!
My favorite things to cook
Depends on my mood. I am a "slave" to comfort food like REAL mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade breads, etc. (I'm a starch-aholic. I love cooking for company and making special dishes, that present beautifully.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always make breakfast casseroles and muffins for Holiday mornings. I like to make the same dishes for holidays that my Mom always made. My family looks forward to those dishes each year. One year I didn't make the homemade creamed corn, and you would have thought the world was ending!
My cooking triumphs
The first time I cooked a Turkey for Thanksgiving. I had never even watched my Mom do it, so I was completely clueless. I was trying to follow the directions on the wrapper, and it said to take the giblets out, and boil them to used in the stuffing. I was completely baffled. I called my Mom and asked her what part of the body the "giblet" was. She was laughing so hard she had to pick herself up off the floor! But, I have to say, my turkey ended up Thanksgiving dinner turned out really good for a first try!
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make homemade noodles once right after I got married. My husband had bragged about how his mom made these great homemade noodles, so I thought I would give it a try. I had noodles hanging all over my kitchen! I don't know what I did wrong, but they didn't turn out and I ended up throwing them all away.
