About this Cook
Just a mid-20s housewife & mom who loves to cook! I have a husband who doesn't like sweets and I love to bake sweets so sometimes I have to just bake up a storm and give it all away quickly so I don't eat it all :)
My favorite things to cook
I grew up in Germany so I love German food, also love Greek food and I cook a lot of tex-mex here at home. Most of all though, I loooove baking. Cakes, cookies, pies (I've even sold pies to people for thanksigiving), pretzels, biscotti, etc. I have a compulsion to bake so sometimes I just go crazy and bake tons of things at once. I actually dream of having a large kitchen just so I can REALLY go nuts baking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'd say Christimas breakfast is my favorite family food tradition. Cinnamon rolls, kilebasa sausage, eggs, eggnog, OJ, and fruit cocktail. I'll do it all myself but my favorite is when we can spend the holidays with my family and I get to make it all with my mom and my sisters. We each have our own "part" that we do, perfected over the years :)
My cooking triumphs
In general, most of my cooking triumphs are forgotten... I just will throw something to gether and forget what I did, then my husband tells me it's the best ___ he's ever had! One thing I'm proud of is improving upon my mother's traditional cinnamon roll recipe by adding eggnog to the dough, pouring it over the top of the rolls before baking, and making the glaze with nog instead of milk. They are very rich and yummy.
My cooking tragedies
I really would like to master camp cooking - using a dutch oven to make all sorts of treats when we are in the mountains. So far I've only managed to make a slightly warm, raw pot roast with raw veggies (which I then promptly burned trying to cook better) and crusted, burned chili.

Real Hummus
I made this as per the updated instructions. Fabulous! The only things I changed were a little less lemon juice and I also added a shake of a mediterranean seasoning blend that I have. I've never made hummus before but I think this will be a staple. Super delicious and very good for you.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I
Good cookie, great texture. I'd probably increase the salt next time to 1/2 tsp. Nice and chewy though, definitely satisfied my craving!

Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies
I used this recipe as a base recipe - what I was looking for was a tangy orange cookie that would bake up like a chocolate chip cookie. Success! They were flavorful, chewy, crispy on the outside, and nicely orange-y. I might add a tidbit of orange extract next time, but I think they were excellent. I omitted the chocolate chips, and used the zest of two large oranges. I also grated up 2 dark hershey's kisses and added them to the batter for a hint of chocolate and an interesting texture. Phenomenal!
