About this Cook
Wife of 1, mother of 3, grandmother of 1, dog parent of 4, grand dog parent of 2. I've been through breast cancer at the age of 50, it changed my life. I am more active in learning about foods, what is in them, if they're good or bad. I eat less junk and fast foods, cooking more and enjoying my next 50 years.
My favorite things to cook
Cooking from the garden or fresh foods, watching shows that teach me how to cook better. Mexican is our all time favorite. I love to add a little heat to my meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother Brown had a great Depression Chocolate Pie that used water instead of milk or cream. Comfort foods like Potato Soup or Twice Baked Potato Soup.
My cooking triumphs
I hosted a 100 people backyard Hawaiian Luau for my daughter's wedding reception. I cooked pork loins two different ways (my pig), fried rice, fresh veggies, sweet and sour meatballs and more. Nearly all the recipes I found here and multiplied to 20 then cooked my pans up. Some of the orginal recipes I tested first, some I went in blind. The food got rave reviews.
My cooking tragedies
If it is slow cooking I am good but pop toast in the oven I will burn it!

Hummingbird Cake I
I followed recipe only using leftover fresh pineapple from a wedding. The cake was gone in a day. Wonderful.

Aunt Mazo's Dessert
I changed the servings to 7 but it was still way to much for my family of 5. The dessert is wonderful...very rich and sweet. Cooking the cans isn't that hard, just takes time then I put in refrig over night. I used store brand condensed milk and whipping cream so it only ended up being around $7.00 and I had a large mixing bowl full.
