Absolutely what I was looking for! Used to get these as a kid at the local Mexican bakeries here in Washington state (very few). Made a similar recipe for my brothers wedding then lost it! This one was a bit different but fabulous. I was hesitant about the whole anise seed so I ground it instead, then accidently put 2 Tbsp rather than the 2 tsp, the flavor was heavenly!!!! I also prefer to bake them plain then toss gently in a bowl of cinnamon & sugar. The texture was devine. I LOVE, LOVE this recipe and will take these tonight to my family's Christmas eve gathering....they will be a great ending after eating tamales all night! Thank you for submitting this recipe.

Hamburger Soup

A bit too sweet for my taste, I added 1/2 can tomatoe paste to counter the sweetness and it came out PERFECT! Next time I'll add 1 tsp less brown sugar and 1/2 tomatoe paste (I prefer a hearty tomatoe flavor to my sloppy joes). My husband said "throw all the other recipes away, THIS one is the ONE!"

The Best Ever Chicken Nuggets

I needed to get rid of a bag of frozen chicken breasts and I also wanted to try out a bottle of Panda Express orange chicken sauce that I had purchased at Costo. I followed the recipe exactly, thawed the chicken, and made sure to pat the meat dry with a paper towel to prevent a gooey coating. The nuggets were beautiful! A bit salty, I'll back off on the garlic salt to probably 4 Tbsp next time. I also added sesame seeds and crushed red chili peppers to my sauce and tossed in the fried chicken nuggets, then served over steamed Japanese rice w/a side of steamed Asian mix vegetables. Not bad! I would rather serve these nuggets to my 3 y/o rather than the soggy processed frozen stuff any day! Another plus to this recipe is that there are FEW ingredients! No running to the store for extra items. I also sifted the unused flour coating, and placed in the freezer for next time. Hopefully I don't ruin it but if so, no big deal b/c this was not expensive to make.

Washington State Apple Pie

Perfect pie! I followed the recipe exactly and felt the spices were perfect (for my taste), I used Fuji and Red Delicious apples, and didn't need to drain any juice out after cooking. I did sprinkle about 1 Tbsp of flour into the pie crust as some had suggested, and that worked out well. I made a crust posted as 'Pie Crust I" which I've used before and love, it's very flaky and just great. I also brushed the crust with an egg wash to give it a nice golden look. Next time though, I will increase the pie recipe by 1/2 to make a thicker pie (this made a 9" pie that was a little over 1" thick). This one is a keeper! Love it! Thank you Dolores.

Zippy Potato Soup

Pillow-Soft Dinner Rolls

Easy recipe to follow, I used yeast for bread machines and it worked very well. Light and fluffy, beautiful golden brown tops (I used an egg wash as well). I think I'll increase the salt to 2 tsp next time I make these. Definately a 'keeper'. The rolls were also a generous size, perfect for company.

Home Made Mayonnaise

All I wanted was a tuna fish sandwich! Ran out of mayo so tried to make my own (I have lots of cooking experience and all the tools...but never made mayo before, we live in Japan too so going to the store isn't like back home). Ended up with an egg-nog looking dressing(!!!???). Didn't have more oil so couldn't make it over. Oh well...guess I'll have a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich instead. :(

Banana Bread V

Absolutely wonderful recipe! Best Banana Bread I've ever had! Everything blended wonderfully and the flavors were very nicely balanced. The texture was heaven! Moist and light at the same time. I made mine with Tillamook Butter (the only brand I use for special baking) and also added 1 tsp. pure vanill just because I'm a pure vanilla fan. Just watch the bread to avoid over-baking. This recipe is definately going into my file!
