I'm a stay at home mom, mother of 5, grandmother to 17, and 1 great grandchild. I'm originally from NYC, but moved to upstate NY in 1979. Love the country. We live in an old farmhouse. I help out 1 day a week at a thrift shop, and love flea markets and lawn sales. I love to read, cook, garden and take care of my home and family.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking italian, chinese, mexican and good old American. I love to bake bread and desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like to can and freeze lots of food for the winter. I also love to cook large amounts of food, like 20 lbs of hamburger. I make it into meat balls, meatloaf, chili, taco meat, etc. Then if I'm busy, or tired, We can have a hot meal. (I also don't have to eat my husbands cooking if I'm sick. :) )
My cooking triumphs
I learned to make a Yule log about 30 years ago, and I've been making one every Christmas Eve. Of course, now I have to make two big ones. I can also make petit 4's for Christmas. I make homemade ravioli for Easter, and a huge bucket of fried chicken for the July 4th fireworks. (8 chickens). I love to watch people enjoy my food, and I love to eat.
My cooking tragedies
Let's see. I soaked corned beef in salt water. That was yummy. I made blueberry pie and forgot the sugar! My poor daughter puckered up for that one! and when I was 15, I made chocolate pudding tarts that my brother broke a tooth on. He was very supportive.
