About this Cook
After being raised in Idaho, living in Hawaii and driving a truck across country for 15 years, I believe I have been forced to learn to like or at least tolerate every possible kind of food. Having settled in the South now, I love the family closeness and old south atmosphere of a family get together. Family get togethers down here are all about FOOD. Yummm My Favorite! Still learning to fix foods Southern Style and trying to stay healthy at the same time. Quite the challenge!
My favorite things to cook
A good old home cooked meal of fried chicken, fresh mashed potatoes, gravy, buttermilk biscuits (home-made of course) with fresh picked green beans and a salad. Peach Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert. Time consuming and oh so fattening, but oh so worth it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Some of Grandma's recipes. Chocolate Pound Cake, Peach Cobbler, Banana bread (special ingredient of pineapple, try it) and of course Sweet Potatoe and Pumpkin Pies. Desserts are the best part of the meal!
My cooking triumphs
When I finally mastered making home made buttermilk biscuits from scratch. Now I wish I had never mastered them since every time we have someone over for dinner or there is a get together that is one of my "assigned" dishes to make or bring!
My cooking tragedies
The very first batch of home made buttermilk biscuits I ever tried to make. They were so bad that even the family couldn't force themselves to finish one (combined even). Thinking that the dogs would eat them, I mean they eat dog biscuits right, I tossed them out for them, only to discover holes all over my yard the next morning. Even my dogs couldn't eat them, they buried them. Several days later I gave it another shot and when the biscuits hit the table the guys started to get up and leave, after swearing they didn't have to eat them they sat back down. We still laugh about that and its been 15 years ago! I probably used 20 pounds of flour before I got even close to edible biscuits. Never give up, if I can make them, anyone can.

Peach Cobbler VI
Wow! Talk about an easy and delicious cobbler! I made this for dessert with a fried chicken dinner, there wasn't a single piece left at the end of the meal. There were only 5 of us! Thanks Karen!
