My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. Because my father is diabetic, I'm starting to experiment with cooking with Splenda and Splenda blends. I love simple, quick recipes that still taste really good.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom does not believe in measuring, which makes following her recipes difficult. So, my grandmother taught me most of what I know about cooking. Our holidays are filled with food, with each woman bringing something to the table. My specialty for holidays is home-made mashed potatoes.
My cooking triumphs
I think I do good old fashioned American cooking best. I've always made a mean apple pie with crumb crust. I also make really good chocolate chip cookies.
My cooking tragedies
Since my husband is Australian, I occasionally try to make something from his home. Unfortunately, the recipes almost always seem to flop. My most recent attempt was at Lamingtons, which are a sponge cake dipped in light chocolate frosting and rolled in coconut. Unfortunately, my sponge cake ended up being more like pound cake, meaning they turned out to be a disaster.
