Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
Growing up my best friend's mother made the best chili. Whenever she made it he'd call me (and the 3rd in our trio) and we'd find an excuse to come over right before dinner. This is almost exactly her recipe. To make Mrs. Smith's chili follow this recipe, but use pinto beans in place of the light kidney beans. Also, use one whole red onion sauteed with some minced garlic, a 1&1/2 teaspoons of cumin, and black pepper to taste. YUM YUM YUM.

Magic Cookie Bars I

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2009
I have been making this recipe with rave reviews for years. Here are my suggestions: (1) Mix the graham crackers with the butter to make a firmer crust. (2) Use pecans instead of walnuts (3) Add the condensed milk last to help everything hold together better. You shouldn't need the whole can, just most of it. Enjoy!

Apple Banana Cupcakes

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2009
These were absolutely delicious! I took the advice of another reviewer and chopped the apples, instead of shredding them. The small chunks of apples were really great. I also used whole wheat flour and added about half a cup of raisins and 2&1/2 tablespoons of wheat germ. They came out moist and very hearty. We'll definitely be using this recipe a lot. Thanks Barbara!

Italian Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
I made this on Saturday for a barbeque. I was looking for a potato salad that wouldn't leave me concerned about the mayo in the heat - this was perfect! I got several compliments on how nice and light it was. I did substitute sliced black olives for the stuffed ones and halved cherry tomotoes for the Romas - they just hold up better. Thanks for a great recipe!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
Wow! I made these for my Memorial Day barbeque last weekend and they were a hug hit! Some of the guys actually stopped eating the meat and switched to these! I did find them a little soft to work with, but took another reviewer's suggestion and cooked them frozen. I cooked them on the grill on a piece of foil, which worked well and then baked one in the oven for lunch on Tuesday. Yum yum! One suggestion: make sure to use a non-stick spray if grilling or baking. Otherwise they stick and come apart when you try to flip them. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!

Easy Ground Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: May 18, 2007
This dish was a staple in our house when I was growing up. My mother usually made this version with stew beef though, instead of ground beef. When I first started making it myself, it never tasted quite the same, until one day she told me her secret. Use real butter (not oil or margarine) for all the sauteeing. It adds some calories, true, but the flavor will be drastically improved.

Authentic Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2006
These were absolutely great! We added a sweet potato to add more color and a more interesting flavor. They weren't as oily as other recipes, which made them really nice. Thanks for a great recipe!!
