I'm a mid-twenties stay-at-home mother to a toddler son ( http://gavinfrolic.livejournal.com ). I'm a Turkish-style bellydancer, breastfeeding and unassisted birth activist, and I love spiders.
My husband and I run a home business performing comedy hypnosis shows for high schools and corporate clients. We also share our home with a pug, two cats, and some fish.
My favorite things to cook
I'm totally a desserts person. I'll cook regular food but that's just because we have to eat something and it may as well taste good; but my heart really lies with the sweet stuff!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother passed me a recipe for Black Forest Cake. It takes two days to make and it's an incredible hassle but it's absolutely amazing. I only make it 2-3 times a year for birthdays or other special occasions.
My cooking triumphs
I don't know if there have been any particular triumphs, but there have been a lot of recipes that turned out really well. :) And the response I get to my peanut brittle (which I traditionally make to give away for Christmas presents) is always great!
My cooking tragedies
One time I was having people over to dinner and I was half-dressed when the timer went off for my fresh-baked bread. Wearing pants but no shirt yet, I rushed over to the oven, put on my mitt, leaned over and reached inside to pull the bread out. I was distracted and I pulled the pan too far out and the end of the bread pan pressed against my breast. It burned me and left an awful scar, about 2" by 2" and with one perfectly square corner, for about two years. :( Luckily it faded with time and now I can't even tell where it was.
