Hot Spiced Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
This was a HIT at a neighborhood Christmas party. I made spiced wine and this recipe and the Cider was gone in the first 20 minutes! I give it 4 stars, because I halved the amount of sugar and it was still a little too sweet. I also did it on the stove and let the flavors come together for about 2h beforehand... but only because I don't own a coffee pot! Thanks for this recipe!

Sweet Potato Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Except for measuring the yams and milk ( I probably added a cup of yams and just enough milk to make drop biscuits) , I made these biscuits as listed and they were delicious. I would cook extra yams just to make this recipe a few days later!

Quick Crisp Snack Bars

The honey overpowers the bar and I find them way too sweet. I will try again though (where I live, we don't have marshmallows). Will subs 1/2 of the honey with corn syrup.

Chili I

Not that this needs another review, but it was delicious! The only change i made was instead of the cocoa and the sugar, I just grated and tossed in some semi-sweet chocolate i had in the fridge. Way to go!!!

Whenever I have extra potatoes, I make this dish. it goes with EVERYTHING! Add a little extra flour if you want to make it more bread-like. I even use them n place of naan!

Sweet Corn Bread

Very good, but thanks to my 8mos old, I left it in the oven too long. Don't overcook or it gets pretty crumbly.

Vegan Bean Taco Filling

Very good recipe! next time I will try with some Taco (or beef) flavored TVP. Also, I used red beans and the mixture was very malleable... I might try to make bean burgers with this one too! Thanks!!!

Unsloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2008
Good base for sloppy joes but a little too much like chili... instead of tomato paste, I mashed some of the beans and that seemed to thicken without adding too much tomato flavor. By the end, I probably added all the chili powder and was still ransacking the spice cabinet as it was missing something. However, it was totally edible as there were no leftovers.

Ratatouille

Very good base for a veggie recipe! I didn't quite follow the recipe, but loved the principle; veggie/cheese layers baked till done. I topped with cheese and Italian Seasoning and served over couscous like others recommended. Thank You!!

Very Tasty! Excellent, super easy, healthy, and cheap! What could be better? I didn't add feta cause I didn't have any but served with whole wheat toast and cheddar cheese. Thank you!!!

Excellent and Healthy Cornbread

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
I have to give this a 4 because I believe reading the reviews paid off. I used 1/2 white, 1/2 wheat flour and upped the leavening agents. (1t soda and 1/2t powder). All in all, it was very good. It rose perfectly and was moist without being soupy. Thanks for the excellent recipe!

Beefy Lentil Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
EXCELLENT! I have been looking for tasty, healthy, easy, and cheap meals. This is IT. I didn't have all the veggie juice, so I subbed 300 mL of bouillon for some of the juice. also, I added 125g of tofu and other fridge leftovers. Serve it with the Excellent and Healthy cornbread on this site.

I made this 4 or 5 times but it never really turned out for me. Believe me it wasn't for lack of trying. It might be that our food processor isn't strong enough, but I won't make this again.

Roasted Beets with Feta

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
I ADORE this recipe!! I followed the recipe to the "T" until I had to season with salt and pepper. After a liberal application of both, I deemed a dash of milk necessary - it diminishes the "bite" of the vinegars but leaves a very flavorful vinaigrette. The result was fabulous; I am so happy I made extra for lunch! Bon Appetite!!

Pav Bhaji

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2008
This recipe was pretty good, but it needed a little more flavor. I halved the recipe (there were only two of us) but used all the ginger and all the masala. I never ended up with the gravy that looked so appetizing in the photo so I added some tomato sauce and more spices, then some broth. all in all, I ended up with a bland stir-fry. I will probably try this again, but will seriously doctor the recipe.

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
Very good biscuit base. I left the sugar out of the base and added sugar only when I made shortcakes. Very yummy. I will DEFINITELY make this again (oh, and for those of you who don't live in the states, shortening is Graisse végétale (fr) or Pflanzenfett (al) - I had a hard time finding it!)

Sicilian Lentil Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
Ok. so I didn't follow the recipe at all but 5 stars for a very unique way to empty the fridge! I used leftover lentils, a diced sweet potato (small) instead of the sugar, celery, and brussel sprouts. The lentils thickened the sauce nicely and I served it over spinach tortelini! So Awesome!!!
