Real Italian Calzones

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2006
Very good Italian meal. The dough made for a good crust, but I played around with the filling. I used 1/2 LB each sweet/spicy italian sausage, green and red peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella, romano, and parmesan cheeses. I also used 15 oz of ricotta which made extra filling that I will use for stuffed shells to make and freeze for another meal. Will definitely be making this again!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2006
Exceptional!!! This went great with our chili tonight, and it is way, way better (and almost just as easy) as any of the boxed cornbreads. This will be our cornbread recipe from now on, thank you!

Pan-Fried Asparagus

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2006
This seemed a little bland to us even though we also added parmesan cheese towards the end. Plus, asparagus is so expensive this is not something you could make everyday.

Ziti with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2006
This was really good...It is my favorite Baked Ziti recipe from this site. Although, I ran out of sauce and had to use some pre-made sauce in addition to what the recipe called for. Next time I would half the recipe, but keep the sauce the same. We enjoyed this, but it made so much we will be eating it for days!

Candied Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2006
This was just alright. I wasn't sure if the flavor was trying for asian or something else since the oregano taste was a little strong. And the chicken, while moist, did not hold a lot of flavor. It was worth a shot, though, since it had gotten so many good reviews, and the pineapple makes it better.

Bacon Wrapped Hamburgers

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2006
These were very good burgers, but I am giving them 4 stars because I couldn't keep them together! We had to throw one patty away after it turned into ground up hamburger on the grill pan. So I may add oats or bread crumbs next time to help them stay together. I put the bacon on top of the burgers instead of around them (only had pre-cooked bacon) but we didn't even need cheese or condiments on top they were so good!

Baked Omelet Squares

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2006
"Egg-cellent" basic recipe. (Sorry, I couldn't resist :) I used mushrooms, red & green peppers, bacon, and a mexican cheese blend. The only reason I am giving it 4* instead of 5*, is because we felt the original recipe needed more meat and more cheese than was called for. Served with Trader Joe's roasted breakfast potatoes and a fruit salad, this was a very satisfying breakfast-for-dinner meal. Thank you! I can't wait to experiment with more ingredients in this dish!

Classic Chinese Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2006
This was a good basic recipe. Although, both my husband and I agreed that it needed more sauce than was called for to add some extra flavor. In addition to the peppers, I used a stir-fry frozen veggie package, and added pineapple chunks. The pineapples are a must! We will be making this again, though, thanks!

Spinach and Tortellini Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2006
We enjoyed this as a main dish, but it became very filling, so it would be better suited as a side dish. Also, make sure you prepare this the day before serving. It is best the second day!

Charley's Slow Cooker Mexican Style Meat

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
This is awesome meat! I've made it several times already, both times for enchiladas. I used beef broth instead of water. I shredded up the meat several hours before I took it out of the crock pot, so it could absorb all the flavor, then took it out and mixed it with a couple tablespoons of sour cream and a little cheese to make a mixture, then filled tortillas and made incredible enchiladas. Thank you!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2006
Excellent recipe! Probably my favorite asian dish to cook now that I have perfected the recipe to our taste! I add some pineapple (YUM!!) for the last twenty minutes since we love pineapple in our asian dishes, and use boneless skinless chicken breasts instead of thighs. Also, it is very important to continue brushing the chicken with the sauce every ten minutes, so the flavor can soak into the chicken, otherwise it will be a little bland.

Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
These were good, but probably better for a snack than a meal. Also, I might use taco seasoning on the chicken next time instead of the fajita seasoning that gave it a little bit of an aftertaste. Otherwise, though, we enjoyed this recipe, and I am glad to have made extra for lunch tomorrow.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV

This was good, but not great. I prefer our usual stew recipe better, and it takes much less time to prepare. Thanks for a change of pace, though, we did enjoy it.

Pesto Chicken Florentine

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2006
This turned out delicious last night for dinner. My husband doesn't usually like creamy sauces, but he loved this. I was a little skeptical at first, since it tasted overwhelmingly of pesto, but once I let the sauces sit together (I used a jar of pre-made Alfredo), it mellowed out. I cooked the chicken earlier in the day when I had a chance, and that saved a ton of time on an already easy recipe. Will definitely make again, thanks!!

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2006
Despite my great hopes for this dish, it didn't turn out too well. It was pretty bland, and while it was moist on the inside, ours was quite tough on the outside. I liked the crushed crackers, however, so I may try a version of this recipe again.

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Yum, yum, yum. We thought this was so good. Served with Garlic Breadsticks using Jay's Pizza Crust and Garlic Butter also from this site. I sent some leftovers to my parents, and they thought it was incredible as well. One of our favorite soups now!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Very good dough. I used it to make garlic breadsticks. Usually when I try to make homemade dough it turns out very bland. So, this was a really nice way to make pizza dough, as it was not bland.

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
I really liked this. It tasted almost like Lloyds BBQ Beef, the kind you get at the store. It had a great flavor. But, my husband was hoping for something a little spicier, and a thicker BBQ sauce. I may try to achieve those in the recipe, but I will definitely be making again.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2006
The first time I made this recipe I listened to some other reviewers and used 3 cans of diced tomatoes instead of the tomato juice. This time, I followed the recipe to a T. It was MUCH better this time around. I definitely recommend following the recipe, this is a delicious chili, the best I have ever made!!!

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2006
This is one of my favorite taco fillings! Although, it definitely will not serve 10 people. We use soft taco size tortillas, and 4 chicken breasts (and about double the sauce) make enough for probably 4 or 5 soft tacos. But, it is still one of our favorites and we will continue to make them often.
