Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
This was delicious! I simmered the apples in the filling instead of pouring the filling over the top, and also added a teaspoon of vanilla. The best apple pie I've ever had!

This was delicious! I used Gala apples, and simmered the apples in the sauce instead of pouring it over the top.

Wow, this made an amazingly flaky, sweet crust. This was my first time making pie, and it turned out perfectly!

These were great, we added a little vanilla and they were perfect! It didn't make enough, though, so I would double the recipe next time.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
I made this for our Thanksgiving dinner, and I thought it was really good. I used italian sausage, decreased the spices a little, and baked it for 350 about 45 minutes, covered with foil...Since it wasn't going inside the turkey, I added more broth for moistness...about 2 C of broth total, and mixed it with my hands until it got the right consistency. Definitely different than my Gramma's stuffing, so my family was kind of skeptical, but I think they enjoyed it...I know I did!

Sensational Steak Sandwich

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2008
This was actually really good...I omitted the mushrooms and onions for personal taste...the only thing I would do differently would be to add the peppers just before serving, instead of adding them to the crock pot. They became too soft and soggy.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

For being so simple, this was pretty good. My husband really enjoyed it. He doubled the sauce to dip his chicken in.

Bow Tie Pasta with Sausage and Sweet Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
This was good--I added spinach, pine nuts, and garlic for a little extra flavor because I thought it might be a little too bland otherwise. I used about 2 1/2-3 C of pasta, and that seemed perfect.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2008
My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe. I made it in the crock pot, but made sure to brown the meat on the stove first. I also used about 1/2 C of red wine instead of all water. I also left out the onion. Thanks for a great meal!

These were pretty good, but I think the honey gave it a strange aftertaste. We still enjoyed them, though.

Chicken Noodle Casserole I

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2008
Sorry, this was not something I would make again. It was too creamy, I felt like I was eating straight cream cheese. Although I added veggies and cheese, it was still bland. I wish this could have worked out for our family.

These were sooooo good! I made half the dough the regular way, and added chocolate chips to the other half. These taste like sugar cookies with coconut added--delicious!

Shepherd's Pie VI

This was not bad. A bit bland, but my family seemed to enjoy it. I used red mashed potatoes as the topping, because I find them to be more flavorful than the normal russets.

Suzy's Mashed Red Potatoes

Really delicious! I'm giving it 4 stars because I ended up using 3 lbs of potatoes and that was perfect. I think 2 pounds, as the recipe states, would have come out too wet.

Amy's Barbecue Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2008
This was a really awesome recipe. I served the salad in a sourdough bread bowl--salad and bread in one! We don't like tomatoes, so I omitted those, and used crushed tortilla chips instead of french fried onions. I had some leftover rotisserie chicken, which made this meal even easier. Thanks for a great summer recipe!

Beer Butt Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2008
I roasted this in the oven, and it was very good and the chicken was moist and juicy. However, I don't think the beer added much, since it turned out very similar to my regular roasted chicken recipe that doesn't use beer. I only had a 24-oz. can of beer, but per the recommendations of some folks on the recipe exchange, just added the required beer amount to an empty soda can. Although the meat itself was not as flavorful as I would have guessed, this was a well liked chicken, and I will probably make this again.

Pasta e Olio

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
This made for a nice, light, summer pasta dinner. The flavor is really subtle, even though I halved the spaghetti (hubby's half had red sauce since he prefers that), but kept the sauce amount the same. So, I would probably double the sauce if using a whole box of spaghetti. I also added a pound of shrimp I had sauteed in garlic, olive oil, crushed red pepper, basil, and parsley. Good meal.

Buttery Cooked Carrots

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2008
These were quite good. They remind me of what my gramma makes for Thanksgiving. But, next time I might cut down on the butter/brown sugar. It made a little too much caramel sauce, and I had to strain the carrots before eating them to avoid a major sugar rush. I will be making these again, though.
