About this Cook
I grew up with a wonderful Mom who somehow always had something hot on the table 3 meals a day-7 days a week. Along with Dad & us 6 kids that was quite a feat-especially on a tight budget! But there were always homemade cookies, breads, etc-& she still managed to lose 50 lbs while making all of our favorites. The kids on the bus new all about "spaghetti Wednesdays". Sometimes they would eat a bowl real quick then have to eat their own supper when they got home!! We all loved it!! At 81, Mom still makes a big pot of spaghetti @ least once a week for us!! Its still delicious & appreciated!!! With the rest of my family working full time jobs & me with a bad back-at her age, she still makes OUR lives easier!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make spaghetti--what can I say!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
On my Mom's side, homemade raviolis are IT!! After losing Gramma & Grampa we didnt make them for a few years-then we pulled it together & made it a Holiday tradition again. We dont get them made every year-but close. We always count them, for all of us (Approx 30) we try to make @ least 1200-1500. If we're lucky-there's enough for us each to take a steaming hot bowl home! YUM!! On Dad's side-it Hot Tamales!! It too is an all day thing that we still try to get together to make. We always made them during hunting season & the guys would take them up north w them to eat all week. We started getting silly & would put a clothes pin or sock etc in a couple of them-wish we could of seen their faces when they bit in!!
My cooking triumphs
Cheesecakes!! I must admit that everyone wants me to make them for Thanksgiving & Christmas or when ever else. They all say they dont like any boughten ones anymore-that I've spoiled them!! I've made quite a few different flavors but the vanilla with vanilla wafer or shortbread crusts seems to be the most popular.
My cooking tragedies
Well, 1 was just a while ago.I was trying to bake a loaf of bread from frozen dough (cant seem to make my own anything that has yeast!) I wasnt even having luck getting it to rise. My sister told me to put it in a low oven & I did. I heated the oven & turned it back off-put the loaf in & forgot all about it. When I did remember, it has raised WAY up. I decided to bake it anyway & when i checked on it next, it had baked right into the rack above it. It was a mess!! I had to take the rack & bread out as one!! Sis got a goooood laugh!! Also my famous "corn-crete. I stored my corn meal in a plastic bowl. I got another bowl to mix it in. I measured 2 c of it out in the 2nd bowl & started adding other ingredients. It was awful stiff-I kept adding milk, eggs so of course more leavenings etc. I poured it into the prepared pan & baked it, & baked it, It wouldnt get done in the middle. While cleaning up, it tried to put the lid on the storage bowl & it wouldnt fit. It was then that i realized th
