Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
This is an excellent pizza dough. Works wonderfully in the bread machine. I doubled the recipe and it worked perfectly. If you are worried about tasting the beer, worry no longer. We could not taste it at all. I used this as a pizza dough, for sticky buns, and for Salsa Biscuit Chicken, and it worked perfectly for all three recipes. Bf was thrilled the sticky buns were so soft, so I guess I'm going to end up making rolls out of this dough. The pizza was great with a perfect crust. I actually baked it partially then added my toppings, as the recipe I used (Chicken Salsa Pizza) called for a prebaked crust. Worked just great, and I'll definitely use this crust again. Thanks for the recipe!

Jule Kaga

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
I don't know whose correct about the origins of this bread, but it's definitely a nice bread. I made it in the bread machine and used maraschino cherries bc I don't have candied cherries. It was a bit sticky (probably due to the cherries) but it baked up well and the bread itself is a very soft white bread. Tastes pretty good. Thanks for the recipe!

Ice Cream Sticky Buns

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
Very sweet, but that's to be expected with sticky buns. I figured I'd give them a shot as we have a ton of ice cream in the freezer and don't eat it often, so it gets a bit old. I used the last of a carton of berry granola crunch (we don't have vanilla ice cream right now) and it was great. Maybe next time I'll use the mint chocolate chip ice cream we have. I was a little worried they'd be soggy, but they dry up a little after sitting for a bit so it's all good. I used the same amount of everything except dough--I used half the dough and used a 8x8 pan, but it still turned out well. I lovethat this uses ice cream and I can use whatever dough I like--I used bread machine pizza dough, actually--and it works great. I'm going to give away the rest as we don't need the calories, but it's not because we don't like it, because we do. Thanks for the recipe!

Chicken Salsa Pizza

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
Very good. A nice, easy, and delicious twist on a pizzza. I used Bread Machine Pizza Dough instead of a prebaked crust, so I baked the dough by itself for about 15 minutes, then added these toppings. I drained my salsa as I didn't want the pizza soggy and it worked just fine. Very nice dinner to use up some of the salsa we have. Thanks for the recipe!

Banana Oat Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
Hmm. Neither bf or I liked these that much. Not sure, but they don't remind me of cake or cookies, so I don't have a clue what they are. I forgot the raisins, but basically kept everything else the same. They're a little crumbly but not too bad and they're moist and chewy, but honestly, I don't know what else to say. Thanks for the recipe.

Greek Chicken Burgers with Feta

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
I used ground turkey instead of ground chicken, and I only used a 1/2 pound of turkey but left the rets of the ingredients the same. I left out the egg bc I didn't think they really needed it. Not sure if the dryness is bc people are using dried sun dried tomatoes or if it's just not enough moistness with that much meat. I used sun dried tomatoes packed in oil--I figured it would keep the burgers moist and keep them from sticking on the grill. I ended up with 3 regular size and one small burger, which works perfectly since there's only the two of us. I made flat burgers, put the feta on, then topped with another burger. Worked perfectly. Thanks for the recipe!

Fried Plantains

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
Very good. Not so sold on the frying part, but I don't really like to fry. however, they are sweet and crispy and soft all at the same time. Bf complained they were "soggy" but he was confusing yucca root with plantains. Not sure how that happened, but once he figured it out he decided they were good. I supposed I'll have to find some yucca root now . . .thanks for the recipe!

Carrot Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
Pretty good rice. I just realized I forgot the cilantro completely. Oops. However, it was just fine without it. I really think the combo of ginger and peanuts makes this a nice dish. I used leftover cooked rice, which made it much quicker, and served with Chicken Paprikash. thanks for the recipe!

Apple, Pecan, Cranberry, and Avocado Spinach Salad with Balsamic Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
Mmm, this is nice. I don't like it as much as the pecan and peach spinach salad we tried last night, but I do like it. I didnt' have avocado so I just left it out. I also didn't have a balsamic vinaigrette, and while I could have made one, I chose to use up the rest of the Poppyseed Salad Dressing I made last night. I didn't have quite enough, though, so I added honey dijon dressing to the salad, and it made it the bomb. I think that dressing goes wonderfully with spinach salad, but I never would've tried that if I didn't have enough of the other dressing. Thanks for the recipe!

Campbell's Kitchen Easy Chicken Paprikash

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
Not sure exactly what people aren't liking here. It's a relatively simple recipe and the yogurt made the texture of the "gravy" thicker but that's all. It isn't a weird texture. It wasn't too spicy for me and it tastes like chicken with gravy and a hint of paprika. If you don't have plain yogurt and don't want to get any, you could probably use milk mixed in with the broth to get the same idea. Essentially, you could just make a roux instead of a gravy. It's relatively quick and easy, but nothing special. I'd probably like it more if there were some veggies or something else to spice it up a bit more. It made a bit too much gravy for me--we have half left over after serving all the chicken. I didn't serve with noodles but served with carrot rice on here and it worked well. Thanks for the recipe!

Poppy Seed Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
Very nice. I cut down both the sugar and oil and bf and I both liked it. I didn't think he would bc he complains about vinegar most times I put it in dishes, but he was fine with it this time. Served over Spinach Salad with Peaches and Pecans and it was a perfect complement to the salad. Thanks for the recipe.

Spinach Salad with Peaches and Pecans

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
Very nice salad. At first, I wasn't sure what to think, but once I got a bite of everything all together, I felt it was awesome. I love the peaches in this and think it makes the salad. It seems like way too many pecans, however, so I'd cut those down. I put a homemade poppy seed dressing over this--used Poppy Seed Salad Dressing on this site and thought it went well with the salad. Thanks for the recipe!

Cinnamon Pear Frozen Yogurt

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
This is delicious! Very spicy with a hint of vanilla and pear. Definitely reminds me of the holidays, and I love the creaminess from the yogurt. I don't do well with ice cream because of my lactose intolerance, but I can tolerate frozen yogurt. I didn't have enough vanilla yogurt, but I used plain yogurt and added some vanilla extract to deal with that lack. I added some vanilla vodka to the mix as another reviewer suggested. I tried it tonight and it's the consistency of, although not the texture, of ice cream. Very nice. thanks for the recipe!

Frosted Banana Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
I really don't feel these bars need frosting at all, so I just didn't frost mine. I could, but why add more sweetness when they are moist and sweet all by themselves? I subbed plain yogurt for sour cream, which I don't have. Turned out perfectly. I used a 9 x 13 pan instead of a jelly roll pan and they took about 20 min longer as a result. Thanks for the recipe!

Chicken Tetrazzini

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
Bf really liked this. I was okay with it, but white sauces and mushrooms don't do it so much for me, so we'll go with bf liked this. ;o) I used cream only bc I had some I needed to get rid of, and it worked extremely well. Bc of the comments of it being bland, I added seasoned salt and garlic powder to make it pop a bit. Worked just great. I used both parmesan and cheddar as a topping. Thanks for the recipe!

Sweet Potato Minestrone

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Very nice soup. It makes a ton, so although I'm taking half to a friend of mine who's sick, I'm glad I didn't make more than the one batch. I don't have celery, so I just left it out, but everything else was in my pantry and fridge so I went with it. I added one can of kidney beans for a bit of protein but left the rest the same. I served with Chedder Beer Triangles, and it went perfectly with them. Thanks for the recipe!

Cheddar Beer Triangles

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Good. A little dry, but that's to be expected with any dough that calls for beer and biscuit mix--at least in my experience. I'm planning on serving with soup, though, and I think the triangles will great with that. By themselves they aren't quite moist enough. I think they need a bit more flavor--salt and pepper, some more cheese. I added some old bay seasoning to the batter and could've added more. I pressed into cake pans and cut into 8 slices before baking with my pizza cutter, then I put pats on margarine on just a few more minutes before the timer rang, and it worked well. Thanks for the recipe!

Pineapple Cookies II

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
I found these to be definitely sweet enough, but I agree with the other reviewers who stated there was not enough pineapple flavor. These are a very cake like cookie, and not bad, but not very pineapple-y. I'm not one to frost cookies (I don't like the added sweetness), but that would perhaps add more of the pineapple flavor. Thanks for the recipe!

Breakfast Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Pretty good. I don't have round cut hash browns, just the shredded type, so I used those. I think they would be better with the round cut though. I like it, but it needs a bit more seasoning and maybe some salsa to add a bit of zing. Still, it's so easy to put together and pop in the oven so it's worth tinkering a bit with. I left out the corn flakes--forgot about them--but would be nice with them I'm sure. Thanks for the recipe!

Apple-Bacon Green Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
Excellent. At first I wasn't too sure, but with later bites I really really liked it. I'm just now realizing I forgot to add the bacon, which would be that perfect complement. Not sure how bf felt about it, but he ate them. Thanks for the recipe!
