About this Cook
i love to cook and experiment with recipes. i try to make them more healty without losing the flavor. i usually succeed. i sometimes find myself cooking for no real reason~~it relaxes me and for me, there isn't anything i love more than cooking, drinking a little wine and listening to the blues!
My favorite things to cook
chicken parmasean, anything mexican. trying to invent things with veggies. i'm not vegetarian but if i can come up with something that has no meat and is still very hearty i am very happy
My favorite family cooking traditions
weekend breakfasts and family get togethers. the get togethers don't happen often enough but when they do i try to go all out ~~ interesting appetizers and something everyone will love ~~ also, just the right wine
My cooking triumphs
starting a catering company (with a couple partners) up in just 2 days. that was quite a chore. after a year in business we had quite a following. it was very fulfilling to see people coming back for more of my cooking and raving about it! it got to be too much work and i had to get out. that was one way of getting me to DREAD cooking. i like doing it for pleasure, not for money
My cooking tragedies
corned beef and cabbage once....I'll never make it again. We all grossed out!

Real Hummus
Ive been using this as a beginning point for Hummus for years! you may add cilantro to make a different flavor. I also use chipotle chilis with a little of the sauce they come in too. chipotles can be really spicy so be cautious. other times i use cumin for flavor...great healthy meal or dip

Quinoa Chili
Made this vegetarian by using the soy ground beef crumbles in place of ground beef... I have been wanting to try quinoa for the longesst and this is a great way to try it. i used organic vegetable broth from TJs to cook the grain . It reminded me of grits but with an oomph! I think I will have to warm my teenager up to quinoa though. he is veg but this grain has a weird (but weird in a good way) texture. hes the type that dosent like things because of texture. I also kept the quinoa separate from the chili because everyone says it soaks up all the juice. i put the chili in a bowl, topped with quinoa and chopped fresh cilantro and MAN is this delicious

Lentil Soup
I made the Northern India version by adding 1 TBS of the seasoning, Masala in place of oregano, bay leaf and basil. As suggested by others, i used less oil and more carrot, celery and garlic. It came out like a thick stew rather than a soup. This is such a delicious and heartwarming food for a rainy night. i served it over white rice but brown rice would probably have been good as well.
