I'm a 28-year-old teacher living in Bennington, VT. While I've always loved to cook, didn't always make the time. Recently my boyfriend and I moved in together and we really have come to love spending time sitting down and eating dinner together... and it's much more enjoyable if we've made it ourselves!
My favorite things to cook
I have always loved spicy ethnic foods so I especially enjoy making indian food as well as Mexican. I also enjoy making my own bread and anything Mediterranean.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We sat down to dinner as a family EVERY night, which I loved. During Lent, because of my allergy to fish, we had pizza and Coke on Friday nights (this was UNHEARD of any other time of year). My boyfriend and I have established a custom of alternating who cooks on Sunday. One of us plans a meal and cooks it and the other either serves as back up or does stuff around the house.
My cooking triumphs
I made an exellent white bean and chicken chili a while ago. It just didn't look right the entire time it was cooking so I was really nervous, but it was phenomenal. I also made an excellent mulligatawny. It's my favorite thing at a local restaurant so my standards were set high. I definitely think mine was better!
My cooking tragedies
I learned the hard way that making bread where I live depends on the weather. It works beautifully in the winter but in the summer, the humidity makes it so the dough is just a wet mess and no matter what, I can't get it to cook through!
