Super-Simple, Super-Spicy Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
My family loved this, but I was disappointed for some reason. I used only 1/3 of the sugar (because I also made honey walnut shrimp from this site and did not want 2 sweet dishes) - don't know if that made a difference. I thought that it was too salty and lacked something. I also think I would prefer a more thicker sauce...maybe adding some corn starch would help in that area. I would not make this again. But the preparation was super easy.

Honey Walnut Shrimp

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
Very good. The batter ended up being a tad more firm or thick? (once fried) than I prefer. I dont know if this is because I used regular rice flour and not mochiko?? (I don't even know if there is a difference because I am not familiar with the latter.) Or because maybe over-fried? Anyway, it was still very good and I would make it again (and I used reduced-fat mayo.)

Good, not amazing. I changed some veggies around a bit. If I make this again, would try the ginger suggestion.

Calico Squash Casserole

I modified quite a few things based on convenience. I used only zucchini. Used sour cream instead of mayo, dried basil instead of sage, a can diced chili instead of pimento, Italian cheese blend instead of chedder, and I omitted the cracker part entirely - just topped it with French's friend onions near the end of baking. Really good and different. Obviously...you can change around quite a few things and still get good results.

Cannelloni Florentine

I followed this recipe exactly, except that I used manicotti pasta and ground beef. My husband is not a tomato-based sauce fan, so I did not double the sauce like some reviewers suggested. This dish is delicious! I do think it is sort of involved and time consuming...but well worth it in the end.

Really good. I also added chocolate chips to the cream cheese mixture. Don't know how aesthetic the top layer came out...but quick and delish.

Grilled Sausages with Caramelized Onions and Apples

I just made the apple & onion portion of this to top some pork chops. It was not what I expected. Maybe meant better for sausages.

My husband made these and they are delicious and authentic! The hot sauce we used, Franks...we think made it a tad sour overall...but still a keeper.

Seafood Salad Supreme

We like spice, so I sauted the shrimp in a diced serrano pepper as well as some chili powder. Overall, it was a good dish, but I still felt like it was missing something. I added some sour cream like other reviewiers suggested. I think it needed both more salt and more sweet. For that reason, the Miracle Whip suggestions make sense.

I don't know if I did something wrong with this one, but I was dissappointed. Will not make again. Spicy, but somehow bland.

Loved these. Did not have molasses at home so instead used honey and used some brown sugar in with the white sugar. Made half the recipe. Delish. A keeper for sure.

Seafood Enchiladas

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
I had some mistakes, but this still turned out nice. I forgot to add sour cream (just made a roux with flour (and the butter and 1/2 & 1/2), and also added a can of chopped chilis and 1 tsp chili powder, and salt too it) I used fresh garlic cloves. I doubled the seafood, and meant to quadruple the sauce, but accidentally only doubled the sauce. (which actually follows the recipe.) Then I ended up layering the dish like lasagna instead of rolling up each enchilada....this was super easy and still turned out fine. Tastes way better with condiments and garnishes. Husband though a 5 star recipe.

My husband (who is not a cook!) made this and it was delicious. He said it was easy too. We did not have a springform pan, just put the pan we used in a water bath. Still turned out great. We added chocolate chips to one side too!

Really good, no-mess recipe. I made half the recipe and used an 8x8 pan. Also added chocolate chips per other suggestions. Moist. Was a bit crumbly...wonder if a day in the fridge will solve that.

Broccoli Cheese Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This was so YUM...but really rich. I substituted the 1 cup milk and 16 oz processed cheese sauce with: 8 oz shredded mild cheddar cheese + 1 cup heavy cream + 1 tsp garlic powder + 1 tsp onion powder + pepper to taste...I warmed all of the above on low heat until the cheese melted and mixture became homogeneous. I also used 16 oz frozen broccoli instead of 10 oz. This dish was really tasty...I may use milk instead of cream next time though because it was too rich.
