My cooking triumphs
I've had many, but I think I'm still proudest of the very first party my husband and I hosted after we got married. We had a whale of a good barbecue which my husband did and I made all the go-with dishes for about thirty guests. That was 33 years ago and I still recall vividly each and every dish.
My cooking tragedies
One Thanksgiving I made pecan pies. While they were baking the electricity went off. A few hours later when the electricity came back on, I checked my pies and they looked okay so I let them continue baking until they were nicely browned. I was relieved that everything seemed fine. But when the first pie was cut, we noticed something strange: the custard had apparently seeped through a crack in the pastry so that the layers turned out to be pecans on top (normal), then the crust, and then the custard. The second pie was the same way. However, they tasted fine so we have laughed about my weird pies ever since.
