Hey everyone out there in AR Land!  This is my first blog on AR and I am really looking forward to the whole experience.  I have been using AR for many years now, and hope to use it many many more!

I just got done making supper, eating and then cleaning up afterwards.  I tried a new meatloaf recipe tonight and we didn't rate it too highly at all.  As we were eating, and squirting copious amounts of ketchup on the meatloaf to choke it down, I said aloud "I guess that's what I get for trying a new recipe!"  My husband, very sincerely said to me, "well, if you don't try them, you never know if you might find a good one."  I know that is the truth because I've been testing out recipes off here for many years, but I don't ever think I have made one EXACTLY as written.  I know, I know, that is horrible, but I just can't help it!  LOL  I know that if I add more garlic, some cayenne, or a pinch of this or that, my family will be more likely to eat it and LOVE it.

Therefore, I will happily keep trying new recipes from this site.  I used to post a million pictures on here of everything that I've made, but time has just gotten away from me and I haven't been able to post any pictures in a long time.  I do however post many pics on my Myspace page.  Search for me there by using my email address: Shawrae@hotmail.com

Well, I just found out that I have Metabolic X, a type of insulin resistance that means I am in the stages right before becoming a Type 2 diabetic.  This shocked me and scared the bee-jesus out of me.  I was hoping to find/try some diabetic recipes off this site, as well as low fat, heart healthy ones.  If anyone has any suggestions for good diabetic variations, I would greatly appreciate any you have.  My husband is predisposed to heart disease, and I'd like to incorporate heart healthy and low sugar.  So, if anyone has any ideas for that either, I accept them with open arms, or an open tummy!  LOL

Being a Texas~Chick, we love our sweet tea and I recently made a pitcher of sweet tea with Splenda and was SHOCKED at how well it was received by my sugar-loving family.  I will do this over and over again!

Well, hopefully when I have more time, I will sit and blog some more.  Working 3 part time jobs keeps me pretty busy.

Everyone have a fantastic evening!!!
Seriously, add me on Myspace.....I love Myspace and check it all the time.
Just put in the subject or friend's message box "allrecipe friend" or something of the sort so I know you're not a total freako.  LOL Just kidding!

Bye for now!

Welcome! That is too bad about your diagnosis, but it is great that you are embracing it to keep your family's health in check. AR is so great for things like that, since they categorize all their recipes. I know what you mean about adding the garlic and cayenne, I'm guilty of that, too!

Hello and welcome! Though technically you have been here longer than me! i have recently under went changing the way I cook for my family also. It took a while to get used to it, but then it comes naturally. Splenda is a great tool, a well as applesauce, fruit purees, and flax seed, and eggbeaters. All great products for healthier cooking! Oh and whole wheat flour for bread and baked goods! look forward to your next blog!

About Me
Hi there! I'm Shawna. I grew up in South Texas and still currently live there. I am 24 years old and am married to Scott. We have been married almost 2 years and I have 2 step-children (Cody & Haley). Cody lives with us and also loves to cook. We are a cooking family to say the least..lol! I love to cook for family and friends and try to do so as often as possible. I have recently become very interested in baking yeast products. I love to make cinnamon rolls, breads etc. I also love to try out new recipes on my family as much as possible. So I am always looking for new, quick, fairly easy weeknight meal ideas. I wish that ALLRECIPES had some kind of message board where all of us memebers could communicate, but until then......here is my email address - Shawrae@hotmail.com or search for me on MYSPACE using that email address and hit me up there! Have a good one and happy cooking!!!!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make pasta dishes with chicken and shrimp. We love ribs and good southern food also. Comfort food. Mac and cheese, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, chicken fried steaks. So if you have any favorites, email me at Shawrae@hotmail.com!!!! My newest favorite would have to be cheesecake. I'd like to start making and playing with different types of cheesecake though. Turtle, fruit, and different crumb crusts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We do all the typical things. Turkey at Thanksgiving, and a honey ham at Christmas. We also like to encorporate some Mexican flavors in at Christmas. We love good homemade tamales. Id like to start our own family traditions also.
My cooking triumphs
I have made 2 or 3 really good cheesecakes lately. I also have been getting much better at yeast breads and yeast dinner rolls. I am trying new recipes atleast once a week. Most meals i stick to my monthly turn around meals. But i love to try new things. Ive gotten into candy making, and i love it. Ive had many issues with fudge, but hope to get it JUST RIGHT one day.
My cooking tragedies
The worst thing i made was one of the first times i tried to make Chicken Parm. and i breaded the chicken with flour, and fried it. It was GROSS. Now i have perfected it. I also once messed up my deviled eggs. I used sweet relish instead of dill. Tasted horrible. Other than that, i havent made any mistakes. Maybe a crispy cookie bottom or two, but thats about it, SO FAR!!!
