I am a stay at home mother of four girls. They keep me very busy, but I enjoy it! I was used to working full time plus taking call, so our dinners were never anything to brag about. Now that I am home all the time, I love coming up with new recipes to try, and also finding ways to include the girls and get them involvedin the kitchen. My oldest daughter (10) is so proud when she places a salad or other side dish on the table and proudly states "I made this myself." It gives her a real sense of accomplishment.
My favorite things to cook
Almost anything! We eat dinner at home almost everynight, so I cook a lot of dinners. I also love to make candies, anything with yeast (I'm fascinated with the rising process), and cakes. I make and decorate a cake of their choice for each of my daughter's birthdays. As they see what I accomplish, the requests seem to get more challenging!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have been trying to make Fridays our themed family dinner night. We have had a Hawiian dinner, a Mexican dinner, and an Asian dinner so far. My daughters take turns offering suggestions, and it gives them a chance to try foods they may not usually eat. We also ALWAYS eat dinner together, all 6 of us around a table every night, even if it means eating at 8:00 at night. It's important to us though!
My cooking triumphs
Anything all four of my girls eat without complaining!
My cooking tragedies
My brother still teases me about a pizza I made at about age 10. I put all kinds of delicious toppings on it, however, I completely forgot about the sauce. I also once tried to make cookies in the microwave because I wasn't allowed to use the oven when no one was home. Cookies come out of the microwave rather rubbery, and can even be bounced off the side of a garage. My brother does admit now that my cooking has come a long way. It means a lot when he calls asking me for a recipe!
