About this Cook
Just graduated with my bachelors in Communication and since I have more free time on my hands I have come back to my earliest passion: cooking. Since coming home I have been trying to liven up the meals we eat on a day to day basis. My mothers' standards are great, but I like to branch out and experiment with dishes from other countries. So far my family has greatly enjoyed being my culinary guinea pigs and the few dishes i have made thus far are frequently asked for and have become staples in our home.
My favorite things to cook
In college I experienced a lot of different food from various countries and fell in love with the wonderfully unique cuisines from around the world. I lived with Japanese exchange students for a few years and found the tasty, yet often healthy dishes they prepared to be excellent. My current experimentation on my family centers around baking various forms of breads and indian and southeast asian foods, especially curry.
My cooking triumphs
each time i make a dish that my family is convinced they won't like, have never heard of, etc., and they end up loving it. I like making good food, and even more, have people enjoy eating it.
My cooking tragedies
last year i made pumpkin pies the night before Thanksgiving around midnight. I was looking at not going to sleep until around 1 am, and was exhausted. I was so tired i couldn't pay proper attention to what i was doing. I broke and egg after dropping it. Then I spaced out and added too many eggs and my evaporated milk was chunky cause it had passed its expiration date. I had no more eggs, and no substitute cans of evaporated milk. I sat there on the kitchen floor, stressed out and just broke into tears. LOL. my mom woke up and through tears i explained what happened. She ran me off to bed and promised she would get more ingredients in the morning. I woke up early and finished the pies, but learned a good lesson: never cook when your exhausted. and always make sure you have more than enough ingredients, just in case.
