About this Cook
My cooking tragedies
Recently had a rather hilarious accident while trying to bake 30 Gingerbread men for my daughter's kindergarten Santa-day. Unfortunately I bought a spice mix that had the raising agent mixed in already while the recipe called for another, and the two combined caused the dough to become hard and extremely heavy.... first dropped the bowl of dough on my foot, then caused a jar of loose tea to explode in my kitchen when a flying piece of wooden kitchen spoon hit it as I was trying to get the dough out of the bowl with it - the first batch turned into beer-bellied, fat-limbed, balloon-headed Monster Men with stalky eyes and extremely wrinkled skin... took me 2 tries to get the proper thinness so they wouldn't do that anymore. With the remaining dough I wanted to make a gingerbread loaf, and accidentally managed to burst the door off the oven when the stuff tried to find more room to expand... The Gingerbread men I finally delivered to the Kindergarten were fine, just I swore to myself neve

Chicken with Rice (Arroz con Pollo)
Absolutely great recipe! I ended up using curcuma instead of saffron (didn't find any that night) and added a bit of cumin to the rice. The chicken I mixed in with the rice instead of leaving it at the top and this meant a lovely flavor to the meat, too. While the dish was in the oven I added about a bottle of beer to it, for some authentic taste. Before serving, I generously added dashes of Maggi seasoning sauce (google it, it's too complicated to describe; I've been told by a Cuban friend that they use it a lot at home). It worked out just fine and got rave reviews from my guests who'd tasted the real thing before!

Caramel Apple Bars III
I absolutely loved these! I am a huge caramel lover so I add pretty much whatever I can find. I usually add some Chocolate-caramel morsels, and instead of individually wrapped caramels I use Caramel Apple Dip when I have some. These have always been a huge success with anyone.
