Buster Bar Ice Cream Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
YUM! this was awesome...used a little less margarine in the base, a few more chocolate chips in the fudge, but otherwise, followed directions exactly. We had it for about a week (just 2 of us!) and it just seemed to get better every day as the fudge sauce flavours really came together. will definitely make again!

Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
mmmm, a delicious and fresh salsa! I added some red onion, left out the jalapeno, and added some crushed red pepper. Next time I will cut down on the lemon/lime (too strong), and try out some balsamic vinegar as someone previously suggested.

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
This was great! Very customizable and easy to prepare - I used more apple, and grapes, almonds, celery, craisins, and fat free plain yogurt in place of mayo, and grilled the chicken with a curry rub. I also added more curry powder and pepper for some more spice..served in pita bread...what a nice change from the regular 'bagel lunch' :)

Spanish Rice Bake

Reviewed: May 13, 2008
This recipe tasted good, but the prep was misleading. It was easy to throw together, but took WAY longer to cook - our rice was still a little crunchy an hr later in the oven..I also had to add an extra cup of water. If I make this again, I'll just pre-cook the rice like regular, and add the flavourings.

Pasta with Mock Creamy Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: May 6, 2008
Wow, this was delicious! my first time using tofu, and it turned out wonderful. Like other reviewers, I just added diced tomatoes instead of the jar of peppers. Then added some veggies i had on hand, some extra spices (paprika, pepper, and red pepper flakes) and it was ready...very flavourful. It also froze and thawed well. Thanks!

Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2008
very savoury...this was my first ever pot roast, using a slow cooker for the first time. It turned out so tender and delicious, my husband raved about it, saying it was the best he'd EVER tasted. I chose this recipe b/c there was no cream of mushroom in it. That said, I took some reviewers advice and rubbed steak seasoning on it, and browned each side first - and just used the onion soup mix and a bottle of beer (amstel light) plus about a cup of water. I made the veggies and potatoes seperately. mmm!

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2008
SO good - worth the wait for the long baking time...crispy on the outside, soft inside! I guess on the spice amounts, whatever looks good, and sometimes add some cayenne for extra spice, and only shake maybe 1 teaspoon of oil with these, and spray the baking sheet VERY well with cooking spray. The leftovers also re-bake well.

Rhubarb Custard Pie I

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2008
This tasted pretty good, but the crust was SO soggy, even after I sprinkled the crust with extra flour. I also think the 'custard' mix is a bit strange, more like crumbs. Good flavour, but I'll try a different recipe next time.

Blonde Brownies I

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2008
There were very good, nice and chewy. I halved the salt as some suggested, and baked in an 8x8 pan. I may try using all baking powder next time (instead of soda), as they did not rise very much - but they were definitely a hit! yum!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2008
I too think this makes an awesome lasagna! I halved it for 2 people and there was still plenty for leftovers. I used only hamburger meat, used diced tomatoes instead of crushed, and just soaked the noodles and didn't cook the sauce (except the meat and onions), as was suggested to cut down on prep time. I have never had a lasagna turn out so perfect! Everyone loved it... :)

Lazy Daisy Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2008
The flavour was good - but I thought the topping had way too much butter/marg, so next time I will reduce that and I think it'll be a LOT better. Healthier too!

This tasted nice a flavourful. It takes a LONG time to steam though - but other than that, what a fun way to eat cauliflower!

Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
These turned out very nice - definitely add a little salt 1/2 tsp or so. I used lower sodium and lower sugar PB, so the overall flavour was more subtle...next time I'll use regular PB, and I think it'll taste a lot more peanut butter like...mmm!

very tasty...I doubled the rhubarb...maybe even more, used half oil/half applesauce, and it turned out excellent. cooked a little longer b/c of the extra rhubarb. mmmm....

Raspberry Almond Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
we LOVED these muffins. I used less almonds, and shortening in place of the butter....just like from a bakery/coffee shop. (I also had to bake them slightly longer, so just test them before you take them out!) Thanks!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Very good cookies, I had my in for 10 mins, and were a little too soft yet, but they tasted great! I also refrigerated the dough for about an hour so that it was easier to work with. Yum!

Chicken Jalfrezi

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
my husband and I both really like this!! I've already made it twice....there seems to be a slightly bitter flavour with it, so I'm going to try cut down on the coriander, and see what happens....but still delicious, and it gets even better as leftovers!

Peruvian Chicken Soup (Aguadito de Pollo)

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
This is a nice hearty soup, with both rice and potatoes...almost like a stew! I had my husband make it and he put in BOTH the serrano chili's i had bought along with their seeds.....yikes!!! very spicy. next time it'll be just one, with a few seeds...and i think the flavour will come through better. It's great on a colder day :)

Nanaimo Bars III

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2006
Very Delicious! One of my favourite treats...I'm from nanaimo and these were awesome! I used milk and pudding powder as suggested, and would recommend adding a little less butter to the first 2 layers (or at least the middle layer), closer to 2/3C, because it did turn out a little greasy. but otherwise, WONDERFUL!
