Funny to see this as the recipe of the day as I just made it for the first time two weeks ago. Many more ingredients and more trouble than the recipe I learned from my mom, but worth it.
I don't think the canned spicy chili beans are available in my area, so I used 4 cans of kidney beans and one can of pork and beans, for a touch of sweetness. I was a bit intimidated by the list of spicy ingred. and since I wanted my kids to eat it I cut back the jalapeno and tabasco quite a bit and left the cayenne out altogether. It had a bit of bite - I wouldn't have minded a bit more- but we all liked it.
Sounds weird, but we served it with a dollop of potato salad on top, and it was a great combination! I will definately make this again.
