About this Cook
I'm a Ph.D. student living with my husband and two guinea pigs in lovely Ottawa. I've been cooking ever since I was a little kid and made "cornflake chicken" with my Dad's help.
My favorite things to cook
Breads, cookies, squares and cakes. As far as "real" food goes, I love roasts and casseroles. Comfort food is king.
My cooking triumphs
I have actually won an award for my baking! Okay, so it was just me against my two coworkers in a workplace bake-off. But I won in all three categories -- cookie, bar, and "other" -- in a blind taste-test. Not bad! Go me!
My cooking tragedies
Oh dear, I just can't seem to get the hang of pork.

Lentil Soup with Lemon
I skipped the cilantro (didn't have any) but added some leftover cooked acorn squash along with the carrots. Served it with some fluffy pitas for dipping. YUMMY! This is definitely a keeper!

Classic Creamy Coleslaw
This is really good. I added onion, as another reviewer suggested, and some grated daikon radish -- deeelicious.
