Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
So good! I added about 1 1/3 cups of chocolate chips and a splash (about 1/2 tsp) of almond extract along with the vanilla. Following what other reviewers stated, I didn't press the cookies flat. They the third pan is just coming out of the oven and omg! I can't stop eating them!! So good!!

Potato Bacon Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
This recipe is great! I made a few changes. Instead of using all onions, I used some shallots also. I also used a bit more bacon, but I think next time I will use more. My only issue is that the celery wasn't quite tender enough. I think next time I may use my mom's technique that she uses on the Thanksgiving stuffing, microwave the celery in water for like 8 minutes. This makes is really tender. Then I'll saute it. Next time I will follow other reviewers suggestions of adding corn. My boyfriend absolutely loves it so I'm sure I'll be making it plenty more times! Thanks for the great recipe!

Lemon Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2009
I will give these a four because as the recipe stands, I'm sure they're great. Mine, on the other hand, were not great, but were still pretty good. I started making these at about 8pm, not having read through the entire recipe...So when I got to the part that they were supposed to chill for 2 hrs, I wasn't really feeling that! I ended up making balls and rolling them in sugar, flattening them a bit on the baking sheet then cooking them. The texture was great, but the flavor was a little different because I used Meyer Lemons. I had some from my tree that I needed to use and they gave the cookies less of a citrus taste and kinda more like biting a lemon tree! Aside from them tasting a little funky, they were great! My boyfriend and his friends liked them at least!

Boiled Bagels

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
As far as I am concerned, this is a really good (or bad!) way to waste a day! I followed the directions exactly except I let them raise for about 40 min. They turned out flat and gooey. This was my first try as making bagels, but I would consider myself a quite experienced cook and I make numerous kinds of bread regularly. Maybe they need less boilig time or a lower temp in the oven to cook slower, or maybe it's because I live in the mountains! Don't think I will try this recipe again, maybe another one at some point...

Cheese Straws

This recipe is wonderful! Although my dough (as recipe says) was fine originally, I added two eggs to fluff it up a bit, so I had to add some extra flour. I also added about a tablespoon of garlic powder, used a little less salt, but sprinkled coarse salt on top. I also put the red pepper on top, it gave it a nice kick. Very light and fluffy with wonderful flavor!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: May 13, 2007
OMG! These are the best cinnamon rolls ever! My whole family loves them and requests them often. A lot of the time, I make the dough the night before and out in a ziploc in the fridge over night; allows it to rise quite a bit, makes them huge and fluffy! HINT: For a shorter 'dough cycle,' stop the cycle after 10 minutes of kneading (mine machine beeps at that time) and then let rise. They turn out perfect and the dough cycle is like 15 min instead of 1 1/2 hours!

San Francisco Sourdough Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
Wonderful! Very velvety texture and very fluffy! Not the strongest tang, but my starter was pretty young. I also didn't follow other reviewers' advice and put water in the oven to bake with and my crust isn't as thick as I wanted. I'll try that next time. Otherwise, very good bread and definitely a keeper!

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
WONDERFUL!!! I have made these quite a few times and everyone loves them! I make them almost every week during the fall because everyone requests them! I usually throw in about 1 1/2 cups of pumpkin. I also put in mini chocolate chips. Very good, but tones down the pumkpin flavor tho. GREAT COOKIES!!!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2006
Great cookies! Perfect texture! The only change I made is I added about 1 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Baked for about 12 minutes. For storage, put in bag or cookie tin and put a piece of bread in with the cookies, this will keep them moist far longer than without.

Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2006
Since the "crunchy top" didn't turn out very crunchy because of the caramel on top, I would recommend to put the caramel on top of the apples and then put the crumble on top. You'll still get the caramel, but you'll also get a crunchy top.

Old Fashioned Coconut Drops

Great cookies! I substituted chocolate chips for the raisins and didn't put any glaze on them. I definately recommend these! They did take about 15 minutes to cook instead of 8, but they are wonderful; sightly crispy edges with a soft chewy inside. Delicious!

Scones

This is a great recipe! I added 2 tsp. almond extract and about 1 cup crushed sliced almonds. I also use half whole wheat flour so I increased the sugar just a little. I also used vanilla soy milk and brushed the tops with egg-wash and put some sliced almonds on top. I also used the drop method. They turned out great!

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2006
This recipe is great! I added 1 cup of blueberries, 1/2 of a banana (mashed) and some cinnamon. I also substituted 1 cup of all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour and vanilla soy milk for the 1 cup milk. The vanilla gives them a little more flavor and with that small of an amount of wheat flour, they are still sweet and tasty. I also substituted apple sauce for the vegetable oil, which didn't work as I had planned. The muffins stuck to the liners a little bit. Maybe next time I will do what another person did and only sub half of the oil for apple sauce. Other than that problem, they are really tasty!
