Married, 31 years young, mother of 3 boys and girl. Cooking is soothing and rewarding to me. I feel like it is my job to provide healthy comforting meals to my family! It's one of the best ways to feel like you are really caring for your family when you cook great meals for them.
My favorite things to cook
I really like SIMPLE, wholesome, comforting, traditional, economical recipes I can rely on and double for the family. I have really been getting into doing things from scratch like pizza sauce, sloppy joe sauce, taco seasoning, etc. all the things I was so used to picking a bag or a can up at the store, I can make simply at home and it's always better that way! 99% of my recipes I get off this site, I love it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Something special Saturday morning for breakfast. It's a great way to kick off the first morning reunited as a family after all week and revs us up for our weekend tasks! My husband is gone hours before we all wake so this is something we all look forward to. I do a nice spread. Also on Thanksgiving we have candles and a dressed up table and something special to drink and we all go around and say our bit about what we are grateful for. That is sooo fun b/c each year the kids answers change with maturity and it's such a gift to watch.
My cooking triumphs
I have to say I bake a lot. I didn't realize until I heard my oldest son bragging to his friends that "my mom always has something smelling good in the oven!"...Traditional meals - tuna casserole, lasagna, pies, muffins, all the things we all are nostalgic about and build memories is my forte.
My cooking tragedies
Not a lot of tragedies, but any time you cook or try a new recipe for the first time, there are near misses. Undercooked pasta, too much of one spice. That's when you ask yourself if the recipe is worth repeating with the desired changes to it. Once you taste something, we all know almost right away what needs to be changed. That is how we become better cooks...through trial and error! The worst is when you try baking something in a dish that's too small...let's just say you're self cleaning your oven the next day!
