I married the love of my life in August 2007 and we love to cook and create new favorite dishes together. My husband is more of the grill master and I am more of the "let's try this new recipe" person. I love to bake and t Christmas every year I bake dozens and dozens of various cookies and many loaves of my much loved banana bread to give as gifts to family and friends.
My favorite things to cook
I love comfort food (baked mac n cheese, stews and roasts) and I like to try new dishes too, so I am always searching Allrecipes for recipes using key words (i.e. Thai chicken-lots of yummy recipes for that). I love to make stir fry because it is so healthy and so pretty when plated.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year, about 10 days before Christmas, my sister and her children, my brother and his son, and myself al go to my mom's to make Christmas cookies together. Even before any of us were married and had children we have always gone to my mom's to make cookies. Now we all add a new recipe to our cookie makng day and the kids love helping to decorate the cookies, but enjoy eating them even more.
Another family tradition that has been passed down is the annual potica making day. It started with my great-grandmother and it was something we looked forward to on Christmas Eve. After she passed away my grandmother carried on the tradition and then taught my mom how to make potica and I had my first lesson two weeks ago and cannot wait to make it for my husband's family and our friends. And now I can make it and have it whenever I want rather than waiting for Christmas!
My cooking triumphs
Finding dishes that my slightly picky husband loves. There are many that he requests me to make, some I even get bored of because we have them frequently. In the beginning of our relationship he didn't like to try anything new and now he loves it when I find unique and interesting recipes.
My cooking tragedies
There are two that come to mind. The first involves and brand new knife and cutting veggies. Needless to say I did't need stitches, but dinner was ruined and I was afraid of the knife for a while. The second involves a cheesecake that "set" or cook enough in the middle. That's when we found out our oven is a little off and have sense compensated for it.
We had made it to take to an anniversary party because my husband bragged about it so much and we were so embarrassed after the first piece was taken we tossed it in the trash.
