About this Cook
Just a single white post-college chick living the high life with her little Jack Russell Terrierorist. We like to pick berries, ride our bike, visit with friends, and of course, feed people :-)
My favorite things to cook
I'm a seasonal baker. In the winter I love to make soups, stews, and breads to come right out of the oven warm. In the spring and summer I love salads, light meat dishes, fish, and cold drinks. Summers I go crazy with pies. In the fall, the fall vegetables couldn't be better. Chocolate cake is, of course, a year round affair.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The one area of cooking I haven't mastered yet is barbecuing. You can bet that with a family from the South, barbecuing is an integral part of all family festivities! I haven't the space for a barbecue yet, but you can bet that once I do I'll be grilling up a storm!
My cooking triumphs
The Perfect Chocolate Cake, of course. I once traded one of my chocolate cakes for nearly $300 of work on my dishwasher.
My cooking tragedies
A good cook never admits to her tragedies, but quietly feeds them to the dog and learns from her mistakes.

Peppy's Pita Bread
I have to give this only four stars because I DID change the recipe, but it is deceptively easy. I used some wheat flour, tahini instead of oil, and molasses instead of sugar. I baked both on a cookie sheet and a wire rack, and the wire rack was hands down the winner. The cookie sheet ones didn't puff. Brilliant pita-making technique!

Balsamic Roasted Red Potatoes
Everyone is their own worst critic. I thought these potatoes were ok, but I was a little let down. My guests, however, raved about them!

Refried Beans Without the Refry
Fabulous, simple, and amazing. No more canned beans for me.
