Cherry Icebox Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
While this pie is simple to make and uses ingredients I mostly have on had, the taste leaves much to be desired. Even with addition of fruit, all you taste is the sweetened condensed milk. I almost feel as though I am simply eating a solid form of it. It just isn't appealing.

Unbelievable Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2011
This was a decent marinade makes alot. I did the chicken on the George Foreman Grill to save time. All the acids helped tenderize the chicken nicely. I was hoping the brown sugar would carmelize better than it did.

Balsamic Glazed Carrots

Needs some salt. I salted at the beginning of cooking and then at the end with some finishing salt. Really good and helped get the weekday meal to the table in 20 minutes. Can't tell you if they are good reheated as we gobbled them all up!

Sesame Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
I just toasted the sesame seeds on the stove top in a pan. Works just as well. Instead of broccoli I used a coleslaw salad bag and added cut up cucumbers and radishes. Very successful results.

Lahmahjoon (Armenian Pizza)

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
I liked this alot. I would add a full tsp of cumin the next time I make it. I used ground beef instead of lamb for cost purposes. Would love to give this a try with lamb, i think it would be delicious. It's a nice quick weeknight meal if you round this out with a salad. Leftovers taste justa as good the next day.

Curried Fruit Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2011
The Curry powder is too overpowering, to the point it burned/numbed my tongue. Also, you can’t do equal conversions of sugar to Splenda as stated in the recipe, 1 tablespoon of Splenda makes this WAY sweeter than 1 tablespoon of sugar. I can’t see myself making this again, I love curry and really liked the idea of using it in a sweet sauce there was just too much. I even added some evaporated milk to take the edge off but it didn’t help.

Salvadoran Salsa (Chimol)

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2011
Excellent! I love the addition of radishes! The texture and flavor they add is incredible. It gets spicier the longer it sits, fyi so if you’re a heat wuss like me, you might want to keep an eye on the pepper flakes. I think using jalapeño or other fresh chilies in place of the flakes would make this a five star.

Beets on the Grill

Love, love, love beets and grilling them brings out their natural sweetness. Delicious! As other reviewers have mentioned I tend to use olive oil instead of butter.

'Chinese Buffet' Green Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
These were good, although I am still searching for a recipe that tastes like Chinese Buffet green beans. These don't but they were tasty. I added black pepper and sesame seeds. I think next time I'll add in some green onion too.

Waffles I

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
I tweaked this just a bit. I’m not terribly fond of using vegetable oil in recipes. I cut out half the vegetable oil, replaced it with melted butter, combined the two and then slowly whisked the fats into the batter to be evenly distributed. The waffles had a nice buttery flavor to them by doing that. I’ve found these freeze well, a godsend for anyone with a busy lifestyle and can be reheated in a toaster like any store bought waffle out there. These also work well for Belgian Waffle irons too. A great all around waffle recipe.

Cilantro Chutney Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2010
I'm sorry, but this sauce basically tastes like milk and cilantro, no melding of the flavors what so ever. It aches for spices and seasonings, namely salt. Plus the cream never thickens up because the juices from the chicken keep it thinned out so the consistency was disappointing. I rinsed the thin sauce off the chicken and shredded it.

Blackberry Wine Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
I left out the nuts. The cake is nice and moist and has a lovely pink color to it. Perfect for a tea party, bridal shower or book club event. Instead of pouring the second half of the icing over the cake, I brushed it on with a pastry brush every 15 minutes until it was all gone. This resulted in beautifully laquered look.

So good and so EASY!!!!! I had one piping hot right out of the oven. Oh jeez, these are evil! I slathered the second one with chili honey butter and almost died and went to heaven! These will definitely be added to my recipe repetoire. I'd like to experiment with freezing the dough.
